"To early cypherpunks, privacy wasn’t marketing. It was the foundation of financial freedom. Over a decade later, the appeal is returning for a different reason. In a world of AI-enhanced surveillance and constant data collection, anonymity is being re-framed not as secrecy, but as self-protection."
Crypto’s Anti-Surveillance Boom: Zcash, Monero and the Return of Anonymity

Privacy coins are outperforming as traders turn away from ETFs and transparent ledgers, reviving crypto’s oldest idea: digital cash that can move freely, without surveillance.

Bitcoin isn’t a company.
But it is having an IPO-like moment.

Early believers — miners, cypherpunks, the first whales —
took asymmetric risk when BTC could’ve gone to zero.

Now, for the first time, they can exit without breaking the market.

Self-custody is evolving against $5 wrench attacks 🔧

These aren't memes anymore, they're weekly incidents. Veteran cypherpunks are adapting their security models.

This doesn't mean self-custody is failing. It's just getting smarter.

Cypherpunk
A cypherpunk is one who advocates the widespread use of strong cryptography and privacy-enhancing technologies as a means of effecting social and political change. The cypherpunk movement originated in the late 1980s and gained traction with the establishment of the "Cypherpunks" electronic mailing list in 1992, where informal groups of activists, technologists, and cryptographers discussed strategies to enhance individual privacy and resist state or corporate surveillance. Deeply libertarian in philosophy, the movement is rooted in principles of decentralization, individual autonomy, and freedom from centralized authority. Its influence on society extends to the development of technologies that have reshaped global finance, communication, and privacy practices, such as the creation of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, which embody cypherpunk ideals of decentralized and censorship-resistant money.

Saw someone classify the cypherpunks as a far right movement today. That was never my experience with them. They hated the government, but all anarchists hate the government. It's really only recently that tech movements have started aligning with conventional american ideas of left and right

it's still incredible to me how much the character of a social group can be dependent on a tiny number of keystone voices

2 or 3 cypherpunks getting banned opened the door for life coaches to metastasize and Visakan Veerasamy's writings to become dogma

The point of bitcoin is to escape democratic control of money. Cypherpunks who think otherwise are deluded & are serving authoritarianism.

The cypherpunks behind @nym built the first real-world mixnet with network anonymity strong enough to resist even nation-state surveillance.

See them at the Ethereum World’s Fair as they launch an update to the decentralized NymVPN.

"Cypherpunks write code. We know that someone has to write software to defend privacy, and since we can’t get privacy unless we all do, we’re going to write it."

Uhh... yeah, you definitely need to code.
