#compuserv
If you ever wonder why I am the way I am online (horny, moody) - you should know I spent my early teen years on prodigy, compuserv, aol, etc…just basically doing free trials to chat and download porn over and over again.

I wouldn't give you 10 cents to the dollar for Musk's X debt. He already took the wrecking ball to it and has destroyed Twitter. The crowd has moved on. Throw it on the pile with Compuserv and MySpace.

my dad showed me how to connect to rudimentary message boards on compuserv and with his help i typed in “hello i am 4” and my dad was like nobody will believe this
what is your first childhood memory of doing something online?

In the 80'ies it was rare even for nerds to have a modem at home. There was dialup in many places but you either called into work or late in the decade Compuserv group, a step up from usenet groups.

Cool story! CompuServ was really a nice system. Took the. Too long to come out with WinCiS and Microsoft along with other left the platform to spin up their own support platforms

The tweeps have moved on. Just toss twitter on the pile with Compuserv and MySpace.

I make an amazing apple
salad, sort of a Waldorf,
I guess. Found it on Compuserv back in the ‘90s. Lightly sweet whipped cream with a kiss of Dijon for a je ne sais quoi twist. 2-3 kinds of apples, coconut, nuts, grapes, replumped golden raisins, and a festive sprinkling of pomegranate seeds.

I had CompuServ. I had to dial long distance to connect. I got 30 minutes a month.

Age verification?

Using CompuServ on OS/2 Warp 3
Age verification?

I grew up with Fox Kids.
Age verification?

My first VTuber persona was an AI running on a PC with a turbo button.

The “public” Internet really didn’t become mainstream until AOL gave direct access (as opposed to just their app access) for web browsing and other services.

Compuserv did earlier, but they didn’t have the adoption of AOL.

I was on compuserv with a 300 acoustic, I didn't find out about wildcat BBS till the 1200s were released

Everybody didn’t get online all at once though. Some Gen X was on BBS’s and compuserv and shit in the 80s. Others didn’t get online until AOL sent them a disk in the late 90s. And some just magically showed on up FB in 2008. It was a very slow rollout.

The Ones Who Walk Away From Compuserv
back in the day before you got online you had to listen to the digitized sound of the forsaken child that powered the internet, and it was a lot healthier for everyone.

The first internet I used was dial up Compuserv
Say your age without saying your age..

When I was in college in the '80s at RPI we had something called MTS that linked up a bunch of colleges with teleconferences in forums and such, and a dated back to 1967 or 1968 if I recall. CompuServ dates back to 60s as well. My employer consumed and killed it in the 90s.

Exactly. This stuff was done as far back as FIDO and compuserv rooms. A mod may give someone a few hours just to completely show themselves, but often it was so obvious and disruptive you just did not tolerate that stuff. And it was understood it was not a free speech violation either.
