@caitmayart.com - Given Brennan's recent shared post, shouting you out for hidden elements in artwork, I have to know... Was the inclusion of what appeared to be Blemmyes in the Zumhara art meant to be a nod to the word, "Blimey," as they sound slightly similar?

@dimension20.bsky.social - Quick question for your fabulous artists this past season!
Was it intentional to design the face-in-torso NPCs in the projection illustrations for Zumhara to resemble the mythological Blemmyes?
They're so phonetically close to Blimey that it's almost too perfect.

Blemmyes! My favourite ancient monsters are headless folks, because of the way they reappear in Ralegh’s “Discoverie of Guiana” in 1596. Here’s a recent essay I wrote about them:

Ok, hear me out, what if Trump drew a headless torso on his letter because Jeffrey Epstein was hiding a secret cabal of headless blemmyes on his island that rich people would go and visit to see them talking from their bellybutton because it’s hilarious? 🤔🤔🤔🤔

This morning I've been reading up on Blemmyes or Blemmyae, "headless ones" with faces on their chests, who've appeared in the writings of various cultures, Greek, Indian, Japanese to name a few.
Alexander the Great was even depicted meeting them.

right. there's a through line from many ancient monsters to that soft of thing, and i feel very differently about the former! but they're not totally dissimilar. akephaloi / blemmyes are probably a sort of exoticization of foreigners.

The image depicts a Blemmyes (headless men), a mythical creature described in Ulisse Aldrovandi's "Monstrorum Historia" (1642). It is a part of a series illustrating monstrous races.[1142x1632]

The headless people were supposed to live around either Ethiopia or India, and were identified as the Blemmyes, which is a bit awkard give that they were an actual group of people.
