#automated-testing
the fuck we are *not*. not genai, anyway.

machine learning to, say, recognize what counts as a hat for categorizing. or to adjust that hat for different models, sure. or for automated testing maybe? idk maybe? there are valid uses. but literally none of them generate art, text, game systems, etc.

We talk so much about AI helping practitioners to transcribe - despite serious risks - but why isn’t testing entitlement notification for patients automated?
November 11, 2025 at 12:58 PM
Really depends what that means. Most software bug testing and QA has been done by automated unit testing since I was in college, it just wasn't called generative AI. The actual game testing and end user testing still requires humans. This is tedium like testing every possible variable input value.

It turns out that if you get reasonably good at Bolted! you can absolutely annihilate all previously known scoring records (53 points in one game, scored by me, the creator of the game, testing a solo mode against an automated player who did not play very well).

QA has been using for years automated testing for reviewing happy paths and key features after changes.
Finding bugs needs a trained creative mind to squeeze the game corners. AI doesn’t know shit about that.
What a huge mistake is this.

Automated testing is a fairly proven and reliable tool that QA teams already use. If anything it levels up the job of QA from doing the stuff the automated testing would do to figuring out how to implement and interpret the results of automated testing, which is a higher skill and better job (imo)

Just helped JasperFx's biggest client (who de facto paid for this work:)) utilize the new testing support to make a nastily complex automated test running between two applications work consistently even in the face of so much asynchronous behavior.

I'm a happy camper this morning.

ppl in the bevy discord were surprised i do automated testing... imo its like strip mining for materials so you can build your minecraft contraption. necessary - and there's a kind of fun in it, too

Like, automated testing is a real thing. Unleashing an LLM to make hallucinated bugs is not, and it's completely unclear which S/E is saying they are going to double down on!

As somebody that has semi specialized in writing automated testing of code for almost a decade now ... I don't think AI actually adds all that much value to it, and I also don't see it as a replacement for human testers, I see it as a necessity as software gets more and more complicated.

Crediting automated correlated virtual testing to AI, even if the results are somewhat collected and collated via an AI engine, seems like just playing buzzword bingo while still doing all of the work in a *very* engineering centric environment.

Automated testing keeps your AI prototype from falling apart after one small change: unit, integration, regression, property-based, and fuzzing.

A common sentiment toward automated testing is that it's extra work.

And it is! So is Git. Or data structures. Or system design. Or code reviews.

The point is not it being something extra you do. The point is what extra *value* it brings you if you do it.
