“SALTCROP is a distinctive, ambitious, smart novel, and its fable-like tone enables it to end with a fable-like promise about the power of individual agency in a time of systemic breakdown” @niallharrison reviews @yumewrites.bsky.social

I read *a lot* this month, bringing me to 49 out of my goal of 60 books for the year!

Saltcrop was probably my favorite of this batch. A deep look at what it means to be siblings and yet be shaped differently by your surroundings. All within the backdrop of climate catastrophe. Highly recommended.

In other news, I loved Saltcrop by @yumewrites.bsky.social. It's a lovely, gnarled sibling drama masquerading as an agricultural thriller, and I mean that in the best possible way. I have some thoughts about the pacing in the second half, but I strongly recommend. Made me miss sailing, too.

BUT I hear there will be a bunch more copies available Tuesday!!! 📣📣📣

If you read SALTCROP and enjoyed it, I’d also appreciate any word of mouth this week more than ever as stores are hopefully able to get more copies. 🙏🏻
October 26, 2025 at 10:27 PM
So if you are a bookstore this is a plea to please consider ordering SALTCROP, and if you haven’t bought it yet but are thinking about it, please consider ordering a copy through your local indie so they remember to order it when it’s back in stock hopefully Tuesday! 🙏🏻

Good news first - as of two weeks ago, Saltcrop is getting a second printing. That’s amazing. Thank you for your support!!!

The bad news is it’s been out of stock for two weeks at Ingram, a major book distributor, which is pretty agonizing. 😓😓😓

The FOMO finally got me and I subscribed to @aardvarkbookclub.bsky.social. My first pick was Saltcrop by Yume Kitasei; described as part eco-thriller, part sisterhood epic with dystopian elements. I’m super excited to dive in! Thanks Aardvark! I look forward to seeing next months picks! #booksky

Finished Yume Kitasei's "Saltcrop" last night and really enjoyed it. May actually be my favorite of her three books so far, and that's high praise.

After reading some just ok books this month, I just finished Saltcrop by Yume Kitasei and that might be favorite book of 2025 so far.

Kitasei Yume crafts a complex sister saga set against the backdrop of a near future dystopian landscape in Saltcrop. 2 sisters hunt their missing third contending with pirates, brutal elements and others who want the secrets she holds. Perfect for fans of Courtney Summers books. #BookSky #Audiobook

@tobiasbuckell.bsky.social also knows a ton about sailing - he helped me with some of the action bits in Saltcrop!
