Miyazaki Car Ferry was founded in 1971. This is the pennant for the route between Kobe (Hyogo Pref) and Hyuga (Miyazaki Pref).
Length 52cm (20.4in). This pennant was produced around the 1970s. #vintage
1. Miyazaki Car Ferry pennant. It features an illustration printed on non-woven fabric, with two red ribbon-shaped decorations attached to the left side of the flag. The flag is enclosed in a clear vinyl bag and secured to a white rectangular cardboard backing. 2. The illustration depicts an anchor and a ferry ship. The anchor, connected by a chain, is drawn large against a background of stylized wave patterns. This depiction is more conceptual and stylized than realistic. 3. The right side of the flag shows an illustration of the entire side profile of a large ferry sailing the sea. The hull, masts, and portholes are drawn in detail and are relatively realistic. However, the white cumulonimbus clouds in the background are stylized and simplified. 4. This pennant has no title, only a caption. The caption reads in Japanese: "Hanshin [Kobe] ← 15 hours, 450km → Miyazaki [Hyūga]". It is printed with red and gold foil stamping.

This pennant was produced by artist Ken Tanimoto, who participated in the 2016 art festival "Rokko meets art" held on Mount Rokko.

【Images description】 At this art festival, Ken Tanimoto exhibited his work "Sights of Memories," which used pennants as its motif. Mount Rokko pennant. Obana (尾花), a kind of pampas grass, is so-named because the plant ears resemble animal tails. Horses with chestnut coats and white manes/tails are known as 'Obana Kurige' (尾花栗毛).
In the language of flowers (花言葉) the grass symbolises vitality and reckless youth.
An autumn sweet themed with a grass design branded onto the surface. Visitors flock to see fields of pampas grass in the Tonomine Highlands, Hyogo. Horses with chestnut coats and white manes/tails are known as 'Obana Kurige' (尾花栗毛). Pampas grass in the grounds of Shisen-do.

I took my mom to the quilt show yesterday. I get my love of the media from my mom, who made quilts when I was little and encouraged me to make my own. The show is both intimidating and inspiring. I could NEVER make these quilts, but they definitely makes me want to keep working on my own. #quilts

The artist's statement is: Family (63” x 48”) By Yoshiyuki Ishizaki of Ashiya City, Hyogo, Japan Artist Statement: Adding embroidery to appliqué makes all the difference. It seems like the more effort that goes into it, the more gorgeous it becomes. Design: Original Design Techniques: Hand appliqué, embroidery, and quilting; trapunto A quilt depicting a raven with it's wings out on a leafless tree, behind it is a clock nearly striking midnight. The Visitation (79” x 78”) By Ricky Tims of Branson West, MO, USA Artist Statement: Original hand-dyed fabrics were assembled using curved piecing (not paper-piecing). The raven was created with bobbin-embroidered feathers and invisible turned-edge appliqué. The moon is from an original photo that was digitized and printed. The raven symbolizes foreboding darkness. The clock suggests using time wisely. The tree represents wisdom, not dead, but dormant. The quilted leaves suggest spring will soon emerge. Can you figure out which one is missing from the center? A small hummingbird is appliqued to one of the waves toward the bottom, and there is a meeting in the middle that evokes a seed pod. There is something very plant like that is evoked from this image. By Caryl Bryer Fallert-Gentry of Port Townsend, WA, USA Artist Statement: For this quilt, I resurrected some designs based on doodles I drew inside radially symmetrical hexagons in 1995. In CorelDRAW, I placed the hexagonal shapes in a rectangle, extended the lines within the hexagon to the edges of the rectangle, then tweaked them until I had a line drawing I liked. I filled the spaces between the lines with color gradations and images of fabric I hand-painted with dye. The hummingbird was added just for fun. 後半20分くらいにやって来た通りすがりの地元の小学生グループ（推定）がめちゃくちゃ盛り上がっててよかった 地域CLへの最後の切符がかかってる試合だなんて事情は当然知らないのに、目の前の試合のレベル（サポーター込み）が夢中にさせていたようで、彼ら最終的にBASARAの選手とハイタッチしてた 近所の運動公園でやってた試合が実は全国からアマチュアサッカーの猛者が集まってる大会なんて想像もつかないだろうな 初めて来たけど全社超面白い

This time I remembered to take pictures of the artist statements and descriptions, so I'll put that in alt-text. Some of them are hard to describe in a few sentences, if at all, but I'll do my best. And many are impossible to photograph properly given the textural nature of quilts.

Four years ago, I started working on this quilt again and was finally able to complete it. The number of hexagonal pieces used to complete this quilt was 30,833. All the hexagonal pieces were quilted in rocking stitch, and each side of the hexagonal paper liner is 8mm long. The perspective is from standing on the bridge, looking down the road/path. There are bare trees on either side of the railings. Nōfuku-ji, a Buddhist temple in the port city of Kobe, Japan, was reportedly founded by the monk Saichō in 805.

A thousand years later, the colossal Hyōgo Daibutsu was built on temple grounds in 1891, but the statue did not survive beyond World War II. 🧵

Commissioned by a local paper merchant, the bronze icon stood just under 15 meters (48 ft.) in height, but remained exposed and uncovered by a shrine hall.

The Hyōgo Daibutsu represented Vairocana Buddha, the same figure enshrined at Tōdai-ji, in the ancient capital of Nara. 2/5
