Delectable edibles for those of us with a lifetime of lung damage (histoplasmosis took 2/5ths of my lung capacity).

I'll perish quickly w/out edibles for sleep because feckless doctors abdicate responsibility -doing me harm by not giving me sleep inducing RX's. Starting my 70th yr soon.

Three of my mother's brothers fought in World War II. They all survived the war, but decades later one died of the histoplasmosis he contracted when he was hidden in a pigeon coop by French resistance fighters.

They were the original ANTIFA.

They would be horrified by what is happening now.

In my case, ocular histoplasmosis! It was 2 rounds of eye-shots, an IV with a chemical that reacts to direct light (making me a temp vampire), & cauterization of the errant capillaries with a "cold" laser. (The chemical bound to them better, too.)

I have a teeny blind spot right beside the fovea.

Discussion 2: This is always secondary to something external to the lung, usually in the mediastinum or in the heart. In this case, being from St. Louis, he probably had histoplasmosis and developed sclerosing mediastinitis which led pulmonary vein compression and then venous infarction in the lung.

Diagnosis: Venous infarction in the setting of mediastinal disease (probably sclerosing mediastinitis due to histoplasmosis).

I trapped one in my hat ... 35 years ago or more. To evict it. That was in Texas and enough bats lived under the Austin bridge that it was quite possibly just lost in that college room.

Did get ocular histoplasmosis years later, but again, so many bats; it was probably in the dirt.

Fungal pneumonias—Valley fever, histoplasmosis, & blastomycosis—are often misdiagnosed. Treatment delays can lead to severe, sometimes chronic, symptoms. Raise awareness about fungal pneumonias to help increase early diagnosis and treatment.
