JAXA PI meeting last week in #Tokyo. First data was shown and is looking great! 🥳 We are looking forward to make use of the new 183 GHz channels.

The National Institute for Environmental Studies (NIES), in collaboration with Japan’s Ministry of the Environment (MOE) and the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), has marked a significant milestone in climate science research with the successful launch and initial operation of the Global Observing SATellite for Greenhouse gases and Water cycle, known as “IBUKI GW” or GOSAT-GW. This satellite, launched in the early hours of June 29, 2025, represents a cutting-edge advancement in the remote sensing of atmospheric components, particularly greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide and methane, which are central to understanding and mitigating global climate change.

New Japanese Satellite Starts Tracking Earth’s Greenhouse Gases
A powerful new eye in the sky has started watching Earth's greenhouse gases. Japan's Global Observing SATellite for Greenhouse gases and Water cycle (GOSAT-GW), also known as "IBUKI GW," has delivered its first observations, confirming that its key instrument is functioning as designed. The Total Anthropogenic and Natural emissions mapping SpectrOmeter-3 (TANSO-3) successfully captured global and regional measurements of carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrogen dioxide between July 14 and July 20, 2025.

Some overlap of DMSP SSMIS with GOSAT-GW AMSR3 and Metop-SG-B1 MWI would certainly be of great benefit to assess the consistency of the sea ice climate data record. For example, the different spatial resolution of AMSR2 and SSMIS has some impact on calculation of ice extent.

AMSR族の見分け方、多分パドル見るのが一番わかりやすいと思う。
みどりⅡ(ADEOS-Ⅱ)→細長い片翼、フレキシブルパドル
Aqua(EOS PM-1)→太めの片翼、よく見る想像図だとなんかねじねじしている
しずく(GCOM-W)→パネル2枚ずつの双翼
いぶきGW(GOSAT-GW)→パネル3枚ずつの双翼

GPM主衛星→そもそもAMSRじゃない、パドルのつき方も左右非対称で特徴的
はくりゅう(EarthCARE)→そもそも(以下略)、パドル位置が片翼というより尻尾

Japan launched its final H‑2A rocket with GOSAT‑GW, a climate satellite tracking CO₂ and methane. After 50 flights and 98% success, the rocket retires to make way for H3.
