First observations by the Total Anthropogenic and Natural emissions mapping SpectrOmeter-3 (TANSO-3) onboard the Global Observing SATellite for Greenhouse gases and Water cycle “IBUKI GW” (GOSAT-GW) - NIES
The Global Observing SATellite for Greenhouse gases and Water cycle “IBUKI GW” (GOSAT-GW), developed jointly by the National Institute for Environmental Studies (NIES), the Ministry of the Environment of Japan (MOE), and the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), was successfully launched on June 29, 2025. The satellite has been in the initial functional verification operations phase. The first observations by the Total Anthropogenic and Natural emissions mapping SpectrOmeter-3 (TANSO-3) onboard this satellite were conducted from July 14 to July 20, 2025, and the proper operation of TANSO-3 was confirmed.

A powerful new eye in the sky has started watching Earth's greenhouse gases. Japan's Global Observing SATellite for Greenhouse gases and Water cycle (GOSAT-GW), also known as "IBUKI GW," has delivered its first observations, confirming that its key instrument is functioning as designed. The Total Anthropogenic and Natural emissions mapping SpectrOmeter-3 (TANSO-3) successfully captured global and regional measurements of carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrogen dioxide between July 14 and July 20, 2025.

Some overlap of DMSP SSMIS with GOSAT-GW AMSR3 and Metop-SG-B1 MWI would certainly be of great benefit to assess the consistency of the sea ice climate data record. For example, the different spatial resolution of AMSR2 and SSMIS has some impact on calculation of ice extent.

Japan launched its final H‑2A rocket with GOSAT‑GW, a climate satellite tracking CO₂ and methane. After 50 flights and 98% success, the rocket retires to make way for H3.

GOSAT-GWもこの前打ち上げだったけど、打ち上げ日和だったのかね、最近。
