Fundraising consultant John Thompson explains how he came up with the idea for the #FirstFiver fundraising campaign. Speaking at the Institute of Fundraising's Fundraising Convention, he explained how an original tweet inspired a nationwide campaign that raised an estimated £12.5 million, according to Charities Aid Foundation. He pledged to donate his first new polymer £5 note to charity and asked if others would follow. They did! This then developed into the #FinalFiver campaign as the old £5 notes were withdrawn. And it will live on as other notes, like the Jane Austen £10, are introduced.
