#BugOfTheDay
Today’s Bug of the Day: the bus stop decided to go loco.
Turns out calling it “bus_stop” was one underscore too few. 🚌💨

Found a very important feature today 😌✨
When moving slowly, my character discovered the ancient art of Quantum Trembling ⚡(?)

It's too funny to fix immediately 😂

Any name suggestions for this “technique”?
(I promise it will be fixed… probably.)

While #bugoftheday was fun, it was also very draining to do it every day. I think just posting when I feel like it or when I find something cool suits me better.
As such, here's something I found today. I'm not certain what this is, but it kinda looks like some sort of assassin bug.

🪰 Stilt-legged Fly (Micropezidae) — nature’s tiny dancer on stilts! With its shiny body and long legs, it mimics ants to fool predators. Often seen on leaves after rain, it moves with elegant grace. 🌿💧
Fun fact: It waves its front legs like fake antennae!

Championne du mimétisme, je ne l'aurais jamais repérée si elle n'avait pas bougé.

This little guy held still so I could get a picture. I googled the name but already forgot it unfortunately

Tweaked the logic.
Boulders still don't follow orders.
They might be unionizing.

Heute bin ich unterwegs an der #donau einem eher seltenen und geschützten #alpenbock begegnet. Wirklich ein sehenswertes Tier!

Day 164: Yet another Jumping Spider (genus Servaea, I think). These fuzzy little guys live beneath the bark on our gum trees.

Day 163: Okay, it's another Jumping Spider (Ocrisiona leucomis).
These guys like to hide in and form silken retreats within small crevices, which is why they are a more flattened shape. They're also a bit bigger than your average Jumping Spider.

Day 162: Because I love them, here's another Jumping Spider (genus Jotus).
These are two males I found waving their front legs around at a nearby female who was very much not interested. It was fun to watch, though.

Day 161: The Jovial Jumping Spider (Apricia jovialis).
A cute name for a cute spider. I love these guys.

Day 160: The Bogong Moth (Agrotis infusa).
I've had this photo for 5 years without even realising that it is an endangered Bogong Moth. It makes me really happy to know that such an important species would visit our farm. Hopefully, I'll see more of them one day.

Day 159: The Willow-herb Day-Moth (pic 1). I think I've posted this pic before, incorrectly labelled as a Grapevine Moth (like that in pic 2). They both belong to the same genus (Phalaenoides), but are two separate species.
A reminder to never stop learning.

Day 158: The European Wasp (Vespula germanica).
This vicious little pest is one of many reasons why modern Australian biosecurity measures are so tough. From their accidental introduction in the 1950s, they have spread across much of the country.

Day 157: The Giant Green Slantface.
This long, pointy grasshopper is an expert at camouflage. In fact, some may actually have trouble distinguishing this one from the grass it's hiding amongst.

Day 156: The Large-spotted Ladybird (Harmonia conformis).
Yes, another ladybird, but a native Australian one this time.

Today’s #bugoftheday is the Violet Copper Butterfly, Lycaena Helle.

Day 155: The Eleven-spotted Ladybird.
Another exotic species imported into Australia as a natural pest control. This is so much better than using insecticides. Plus, who doesn't love seeing a little ladybird going about their day?

Day 154: The Variegated Ladybird (Hippodamia variegata).
This is a European native that has been spread across the world by people as a natural pest control.

May 18, 2025 at 10:26 AM
Day 153: The Transverse Ladybird (Coccinella transversalis), not to be confused with the closely related species with the same common name that is found across Europe and North America.

Day 152: A Charcoal Pyralid Moth, I believe (Stericta carbonalis).
The colouring on these guys is normally more well suited to tree bark (especially after a fire), rather than to this brick wall.
