Aeroecology drives seasonal movements and predicts future distributions of a critically endangered terrestrial #bird
Braham et al. show how accounting for upward movement of air improves species distribution models for critically endangered California condors. These aeroecological models show that, contrary to conventional wisdom, orographic updraft likely is a stronger determinant of condor distribution than thermal updraft or, possibly, even food availability.

Have you looked at aeroecology, the folks who are using weather radar in the USA to look at nighttime bird migration. There are really interesting ways weather over the Gulf and continental USA change behaviors flyways. Example: bsky.app/profile/bird... and more at birdcast.info
BirdCast - Bird migration forecasts in real-time
When, where, and how far will birds migrate? How many birds passed last night? Our tools help you explore the answers to these and many other questions about bird migration.

The New Science of Aeroecology Reveals So Much About the Amazing Creatures That Populate the Skies and How Humans Can Ensure Their Survival
The sky above us is a complex ecosystem, just like the land and sea. A new field of research is bringing a fresh understanding of the birds, bugs and other species that live there

This should've been in the #birds 🪶 feed, but as a raptor enthusiast I just naturally (but wrongfully) assumed 🦅 would be sufficient to get it in there.

Another NYE, another night of terror for millions of birds across the Netherlands (and around the world).
Last year we published in @ecologicalsociety.bsky.social Frontiers 🧪 about the massive impact of fireworks on birds 🦅.

Excited to share my radar aeroecology research on the stopover ecology and conservation of migrating songbirds with @ctaudubon.bsky.social community tonight at 7pm EST!
Migrating birds rely on stopover sites to rest and refuel, but habitat loss threatens their journey. Dr. Guo's (@fyguo.bsky.social) research explores key migration hotspots and how birds adapt when those sites disappear.

Just looked up “aeroecology.” Did not help except in the general sense of learning it has to do with things going on in the atmosphere and how animals react to them.
