Steve Kornacki: Republicans took a political hit in the shutdown. How long will it last?
Since government funding lapsed, the GOP has fallen in the polls and lost at the ballot box. But shutdown history shows the party can turn it around before the midterms.

The eight senators who voted with the Republicans appear to have lost any hope Trump would negotiate and, in that absence, decided they had to relieve the pain of the shutdown.

Why Democrats need to get over their shutdown crackup — and fast
The party has a chance as soon as next month to exploit Republican divisions on its No. 1 issue. But that will require an end to the current fury.

Thanks a lot for folding, @kaine.senate.gov—you are one hell of a disappointment. I never thought my own senator would vote against Virginia voters’ wishes. And after that beautiful blue sweep on Tuesday, too. You let us down big time.

New in PN: Cue the rebellion

"The unfortunate conclusion to the shutdown is going to fuel a rebellion within the Democratic Party, one that has already begun but will only get stronger. And despite all the justified disgust now being expressed at Dems, in the long run it will be good for the party"

The Democrats in the Senate who handed the GOP a lifeline with the shutdown cave in stopped a massive Trump cave in that would have happened sooner rather than later. With the busiest flying season approaching, Trump desperately needed a deal. Sadly Democrats gave it to him.

Schumer allows a provision to go into the supposedly “clean” CR to allow people like Ted Cruz to file lawsuits for money over Jack Smith’s J6 investigation. Amazing Dem leadership in the senate. Thanks Chuck!
