In The Invoker, I wanted my Witch subclass to have a familiar that was more flexible than the standard Chain Pact options. I accomplished much of that with new invocations, but I also changed the base familiar statblock a bit. This should still be suitable for use with Pact of the Chain.

The last subclass in The Invoker is the Witch, who uses their familiar to mediate their pact with their patron. Witch familiars grow in power as the witch does and are customizable through invocations and feats.

The Oracle is an Invoker subclass that acts as an information gatherer and messenger for their patron. If you like the idea of precognition but think it should be represented by something more flavorful than just rerolls, you'll love the Oracle. The Invoker is coming to the DMsGuild this week.

Next up is the Binder — an Invoker subclass that makes temporary pacts with strange entities called vestiges (and is adapted from the 3.5 edition class). If you like the way wizards can prepare for anything, just wait until you meet the Binder. Coming to the DMsGuild in just a few days.

A peek at invoker magic: They’re half-casters, but have access to some additional/higher level spells. Some spells and invocations are open to all invokers, but each patron grants access to its own set of spells, invocations, and proficiencies. Each subclass accesses these differently.
Bargain for Power 5th-level invoker feature You can sacrifice a portion of your health in order to increase your spellcasting power. As a bonus action, you can spend hit dice to create a single spell slot. The spell slot you create is equal to the number of hit dice you spend, but it cannot be greater than the maximum spell level that you can prepare (see Table: The Invoker). The spell slot you create will persist for up to 1 minute if not used, after which time it is lost. Once you create a spell slot in this way, you can’t do so again until you finish a short or long rest. Greater Arcana 11th-level invoker feature You are able to learn powerful arcane secrets through your pact. When you prepare spells, you can prepare an extra spell which must be of 6th level or higher but cannot be greater than the maximum spell level you can normally prepare (see Table: The Invoker). At 13th level you can prepare two such extra spells, and at 15th level you can prepare three. At 17th level, when you complete a short rest, you can commune with your patron and change one of the extra spells you have prepared to a different invoker spell of 6th level or higher. Once you change a prepared spell in this way, you can’t do so again until you finish a long rest.
