changed my upper two ear piercings for the first time in probably 15 years. i’ve kept slightly gauged hoops in them, and they’re hard to get the little captive balls in and out, so i’ve just left them. but i have a lot of cute posts, and i want to wear them, so i figured no time like the present.

yep. this is important. it’s not especially fun, but it’s not that bad, and it’s over relatively quickly. and!! it’s always better to find anything early.

i feel like there’s also something here (tied in with entitlement) about coping with disappointment, and we’re not good about that as a culture these days. do i want my favs to always make work i love? of course. am i disappointed when they don’t? sure! and that’s fine! *is that their problem*? NO
I’m also not going to push my point too far but there is an element in here of why people are drawn to AI: it’s art they can enjoy without having to engage with the fact that the artist is human bc they artist isn’t human, it’s the plagiarism machine

i think this comes up a lot in fandoms where the artist/s literally grow up in front of the media? you see so much of this in the 1D fandom, and it’s very frustrating. these are very fully grown adults living individual lives making decisions that you don’t have to agree with, and that’s ok!!
BTW I have these opinions and this perspective not bc I’m somehow an individual who just knows how to perfectly interact with media but bc I have been personally present for about 4.5 implosions of the swiftie fandom

i think this comes up a lot in fandoms where the artist/s literally grow up in front of the media? you see so much of this in the 1D fandom, and it’s very frustrating. these are very fully grown adults living individual lives making decisions that you don’t have to agree with, and that’s ok!!
couldn’t agree more with all of this. our culture has shifted the role of “fan” from “lover of an artist” to “entitled consumer” and it sucks. you see it in other fandoms and you see it in shit like people feeding WIPs to AI to get the ending faster. we have to get comfy with art not being about us.
The thing is that so many people who proclaim to be fans of a thing are in fact *only* a fan of the version they have of it in their heads. The don’t see the creators they like as malleable and changeable human beings who *will* grow and evolve into doing new things
