Honestly props to you for being so mature about all of this. Disagreement is going to happen in any community from time to time. I know my emotions would have flared up after reading through that itch thread. Here's hoping everyone has a chance to cool off and be kind to one another.

Bonus fun: in accordance with their visual design, if a one-armed bandit is moving to the east, they deal no damage to the player. (Their arm doesn't reach.)

In slightly more detail: dialog works by first setting up the entire playfield, then walking backwards to "undo" splits near the bottom. The problem arose when the last remaining split had *already run* before it got there. That queued up the wrong IRQ handler and crashed the effect reliably.

My TI-82 graphing calculator came with an instruction manual. While reading over it (instead of doing algebra homework) I came across the getKey command, which proudly declared that it could be used to make video games.

There is nothing quite as tempting to a bored math student, as it turns out.

Heh, I need to get better at compositing anyway. Submitted! The footage for the PC build was much easier to capture, but it does really run on an NES, so there's that. :)

What a fun idea, trying to construct 15 representative seconds without it devolving into madness. Can't wait to see the rest!

At this point most of the remaining issues feel like limitations with SDL2 specifically. Though I'm suspicious of the "gamepad type" in particular breaking on every 2nd reconnect onwards. That seems odd, and may be my fault. I need to debug with fresh eyes.

I'm pleased to report that Tactus is working perfectly on real hardware using this mapper. How delightful! I'll include it in the next demo release so folks can finally give it a whirl on their real NES consoles.

Layout here is definitely not final. I'm lukewarm on the 2x-sized weapon icon, which causes the dreaded mixels. 😱

If I keep this layout, I might draw PC-exclusive weapon artwork just to work around that. Undecided, and thoughts welcome!

What creature? All I can see is a perfectly normal chest :)
