There's only one active meshtastic node per approximately 2 million people in this city and AFAIK zero meshcore. If I bought 2 meshtastic dongles, the number of nodes would increase 50%. Plus, good luck with line of sight. I'm in the middle of this map.

Testing the Black Bay's seal.

I'm not testing the engineering behind the maximum rated pressure. I'm testing that the watch is sealed; the case back O-ring, crown O-rings and crystal gasket are seated and greased.

A 200m watch can fail in the shower if it's not closed properly.

This Patek Philippe Aquanaut or Panerai Goldtech PAM01112 would out-gold even the JLC if it weren't for the strap. The PP is too small; the Panerai too big. The JLC is in the Goldilocks zone. Or Goldilocks' friend zone, because I can't afford any of them.

This Tudor Black Bay 41 ref. 7941A140 METAS certified Master Chronometer clashes with my shirt. Awkward.

I'm playing the will-the-wife-notice game like I did with the cameras. She noticed the new colour (probably because it clashed), but the Submariner slipped by like a Shinobi in the shadows.

I'll end on a market observation. Watch prices are generally falling slightly. But gold is high.

This Tudor Le Royer generally trades for only $500 but our reserve is over $800 because there's more value than that in those little 18K centre links.

Many watches are now worth more as scrap. 😱

Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Grande GMT. I wasn't prepared for this watch's masculine wrist presence or how much gold was involved. I pity the fool... no I don't I'm reluctant to leave it in the auction. How did they fit so many complications in there?

I'm normally not a Bulgari fan, but this Rettangolo R749PT is something special. Tourbillon, though-skeleton, solid rectangular curved platinum case.

I gotta hand it to Cartier, they don't copy others'. This results in fantastic watches that make a statement.

The theme is curvature. Cartier will seemingly do anything to avoid a classical flat disc watch shape.

Here's my monthly dump of weird and wonderful luxury watches (short thread).

We don't see the Rolex ref. 126720VTNR very often. I'm tempted to keep it, but being right handed, I can't quite get it to work for me. Now I know how lefties feel.

Tandorio did an FXD homage, a 42mm automatic titanium 200m diver with milled lugs for about a hundred bucks.

The bezel is monodirectional and turns in the conventional way, but is smoother than the Tactical Frog. Details in the Alt text.

Brian, buy a WD1680Q. Thank me later. I just did a post on it. Quite apart from the price difference, I have a hard time choosing between the two on a daily basis and it meets your stated budget.

Even though I own a no-date Submariner, this $100 Watchdives WD1680Q V2 has been getting half my wrist time over the last few weeks.

It's hard to start with an icon and make enhancements that don't take away from the look. Details in the Alt text.

I'm impressed with this Phorcydes PH-2. At $300 it was more than most Chinese watches, but this skin diver is unusually refined in delivery.

The finish is Tudor-esque and the lume blocks put my Submariner to shame. The only weak point is the too easily turned bezel.

This Addiesdive watch was HARD to hydromod. The dial was so well sealed from the movement that it held on to a big air bubble.

My last resort would have been to assemble it submerged, but instead I pulled a vacuum and degassed it that way.

The result is hilariously good for a $45 watch.

I've just hydromodded this Militado ML16 dive watch with Fluorinert and polystyrene beads.

It was quick and easy.

Advantages: Unlimited(ish) water resistance and enhanced visibility in air and especially water.

WD 16500 is compared here to other similar watches, including a Daytona or two.
November 24, 2025 at 9:28 AM
I just got this Watchdives WD16500 a clomage of the Rolex Cosmograph Daytona ref. M126500LN-0001. It's uncanny valley close; I only see the differences to the Rolex rather than appreciating it for what it is; a decent quartz chronograph that's comfortable and good looking.
November 24, 2025 at 8:49 AM
With a smooth sweeping quartz, this is a prime candidate for hydromodding. Which is when you fill your watch with low viscosity 3M Fluorinert perfluorocarbon and it becomes immune to depth, like Ed Harris in The Abyss.
November 20, 2025 at 9:37 AM
The Militado ML16 is inspired by the Sinn UX SDR but isn't a clone. It's smaller, more practical, comfortable. Also the crown is in a different position and it has guards, and there's a difference in lettering colours. And it only costs $120.

Rolex are so good at their game that you can only appreciate what ten grand gets you when you try this San Martin SN0017 ($250). A slightly better clasp, a slightly better movement (but same beat rate and calibrated and tested in 6 positions). Microscopically better finishing and all the trademarks.
November 20, 2025 at 9:06 AM
This Berny AM439M-GRN is a false compressor, meaning the timing bezel rotates internally with a locking knob. This makes for a watch that can be dressed up on a steel strap, but is still functional as a dive watch.

It wasn't expensive either at $111, plus another $8 for shipping.

This Orient Mako III "Kamasu" is what I'd call a working man's tool watch. $430 new, I paid $65 for this used example.

The washed out red anodising goes well with my Autumn wardrobe and it's a full-spec day-date automatic diver by a respected Japanese brand.

Watchdives have outdone themselves with this Explorer clomage. It's a touch lighter than I remember of the original but pretty much everything about this is perfect.

I urge caution as it's made me badly desire the Rolex. If you have better self-control than I, buy this instead (it cost me $109).

This IWC Ingineur clone cost me $84.95 shipped. It's a great design, compact and elegant with an integrated strap. I skipped the steel strap and the balance is still good, but the replacement is silicone, which is a dust magnet. The olive waffle dial looks sharp. Excellent.

Now I have a watch pressure tester. Ho Ho Ho 🎄
