Old photo: if Maggie Thatcher had got her way, this would have been - at best - an unused monument to our industrial past, and to those who died in the construction of the Settle and Carlisle railway.
Happily, Ribblehead Viaduct remains an important part of our working transport infrastructure...

Attempted suicide seems a bit of an over-reaction. It's only 0-1...

I see Monsieur #Farage is speaking to Welsh farmers tonight. Funny that. You'd have thought it would be the Reform leader in Wales's job, but I believe he's otherwise engaged just now...

Still, it'll give little Nigel the chance to rummage in his 'dressing up as a farmer' box again, eh? 😂

Old photo: erected in 1674 the 79 feet tall octagonal chalk tower on Flamborough Head, Yorkshire, is one of England's oldest surviving lighthouses.
It was never actually lit, before being replaced by the existing structure in 1806.

Two faces of pure evil... And in the centre, a brave man forced into doing a job he can scarcely have imagined when he started out...

Just how much will the people of Ukraine have to sacrifice to satisfy #Trump's personal vanity and desire for a Nobel Peace Prize? 🤮

From my Facebook memories today.

A useful reminder that hyphens can be very important...

Saw this on FB. It seems a bit vehement, Waitrose. Pigs in Blankets and Brussels Sprouts aren't that bad... 😂

Old photo: two of the Neolithic standing stones of Drumtroddan, south-west Scotland, have now fallen. The third remains on its windy ridge, a silent reminder of our ancient ancestors and their science and beliefs...

I say, Tripemongers of @tripeuk.bsky.social!

You haven't been upsetting those nice Russian gentlemen, have you? 🤣👍

Old photo: the village of Aldborough, near Boroughbridge in North Yorkshire, was once Isurium Brigantum, a major Romano-British town.

Some splendid mosaic pavements, including this one, survive there in the care of English Heritage.

Nov 17th 1995. Thirty years ago, a fine man died, too young, at the age of 50.

Alan Hull was the leading light of Lindisfarne, a superb solo musician, and a true socialist. For me he remains, easily, Britain's most underrated songwriter.

Below is my photograph of him. Rest easy, Alan.

Old photo: the stumps of the piers of the first Tay Bridge, which collapsed in a storm in 1879, are still visible a few feet downstream of the second bridge, completed in 1887.
No-one survived the tragedy; the generally accepted number of fatalities is 75.

Apologies for the screenshot. I had no intention of actually paying to read this hysterical rag 🤮

The hack responsibile refers to words "supposedly uttered" by #Trump.

There's no supposition involved. They might have been badly edited, but he said those words.

A pity the Telegraph is so biased!

I live less than 4 miles from the National Coal Mining Museum for England. It's a marvellous place, and well worth a visit.

But please - not at the moment. Change is needed. Respect the picket... 👍

Nice one Private Eye! Out now... 👍

Viscount Rothermere (Daily Mail owner, billionaire, non-dom) would love to see the BBC destroyed.

So would Farage (and Reform). Uncritical bum-kissing is right up his alley.

And you can bet the Mail won't get a 'psychic home healer' (🤣) to evict him, either.

The Beeb is far from perfect. But...

Today in the UK is Remembrance Day, when we honour and thank those who defended us against fascism in World War II.
The day also commemorates the First World War. This senseless slaughter had no such clear objective. Few came home. Wilfred Owen, himself killed in 1918, wrote of them...

Strange, isn't it? Farage is usually happy to mouth off publicly about anything...

But his only comment I can find about The Asshole Formerly Known As Prince blames his fall on "the modern media and social media age"...

There couldn't be a chum of Epstein he's terrified of upsetting could there? 🤮
