Whilst there it was nice to see several Snipe, a Woodcock, pair of Stonechats and large flocks of Goldfinch, Siskin and winter thrushes using the field boundaries, along with a number of Wood Mice and Field Voles 🐦🐭
Last week our hardworking volunteers were busy planting and gapping up hedges on the Friends of the #LDV's new fields at Thornton Ings - thanks to a very generous grant from the Tree Council 🌳

Whilst Bank Island and Wheldrake Ings are extensively flooded, other viewing areas are available at Thorganby Village Hall, Ellerton and Aughton Churches, and from the hides at North Duffield Carrs @yorkbirding.bsky.social
A Slavonian Grebe distantly from the car park bridge at Wheldrake Ings #PWC2025 @patchbirding.bsky.social
The car park is flooded & waders needed to get through the water. No access to tower hide as the footpaths are flooded.

Raptor fest at North Duffield Carrs last week with 10+ Buzzards, 8 Red Kites and 5 Marsh Harriers all seen hunting along the rising floodwater - no doubt taking advantage of the displaced small mammals on the move. Peregrine, Kestrel and Sparrowhawk also present @yorkbirding.bsky.social

Spectacular afternoon sunshine in the @ldvnnr.bsky.social following a biblical downpour, on our @yorkscoastnature.bsky.social Wetlands birding day. A smart Peregrine landed nearby, having flushed thousands of waders and ducks from the flooded ings. Friday feeling!
