One day, when we get through this, I hope to build a library like my paternal grandfather had. Of what little remains of his library I can tell you it would involve custom bookplates, false books for stashes, and poetry books with my future spouse's name and address written in them.

Attempts to request my great-grandfather's military records have hit a slight hitch.

Better response than for my grandfather's records (great-grandfather is Grandma's father), which was basically "lol we need more info here's 2 forms to fill out and mail in."

I found 2 reports re:the 101st Infantry Battalion, 26th Division. With the German border in sight, the 101st learned they would be pulled out of the sector. Eager to cross the border and knowing this might be their one chance, they really pushed hard to try and cross. Great-Granpa was in Co A 101st-

Time for a history break. In researching my great-grandfather's experience in #WWII I found a comprehensive report document written post-war about his Division! Interestingly enough there are reports from different sources of the same days/actions, but the facts differ(such as dates) between some.

Raymond's enlisted record and honorable discharge lists his civilian occupation as "Truck Driver". He entered active duty 28 March, 1944 and was honorably discharged 28 December, 1945. His discharge lists a Purple Heart, EAME campaign medal w/ 3 bronze stars and a good conduct medal.

Allow me to introduce one Raymond H Humphreys of Company A, 1st Battalion, 101st Infantry Regiment, 26th Division of the US Army. Raymond served (see: was drafted) as a Rifleman in the final years of WWII. Later he served as my Great Grandfather (V important service).
