sorry to be a debbie downer but everything in this thread is just standard chinese transliteration stuff. it defaults to characters with nice meanings. these transliterations look perfectly standard to me, any nice meanings are just happy accidents

theory. anyway, i did encounter this passage before i started reading the book and i find it very moving. i think us queers often don't have a clear articulation of what queer liberation should be, and though engels was not trying to articulate that, this is relevant to how we should think about it

this morning i hiked to eagle falls and eagle lake. the hike to the lake was pretty strenuous, lots of rocky incline. also maybe slightly dumb to do it with no phone but i didn't die and the view was exquisite

breakthrough: the point 90° further above where we raised the equator to defines the minor axis of the ellipse! it's the point on the back side of the prime meridian with the y-value cos γ. and it can also be eyeballed through perspective.

two points and a center are sufficient to uniquely identify an ellipse. we can reflect the two points across the center to form a parallelogram. then the ellipse - our equator raised by γ along the meridian at σ - circumscribes that parallelogram.
