Netanyahu's letter to Herzog doesn't even use the word "pardon". He talks about "ending the trial".

Pending recommendations from the Justice Ministry, which will take a few months, Herzog can.

If there are any people out there who think that Herzog is the liberal and reasonable face of Israel, I don't know on what planet they're living.
Herzog is a nepo baby, who stands for nothing, and did nothing to stop Israel's slide into a genocidal authoritarian regime.

We know that Herzog tried to talk key witnesses out of testifying against Netanyahu.
We know that Herzog lobbied for a presidential pardon for Netanyahu before he was elected as president.
We know that Netanyahu supported Herzog in the secret ballot in the Knesset.

It's overwhelmingly clear that Israelis will not move without significant costs. Leverage needs to be generated, and then the question is how to use it

This means that Israel killed directly 4% of Gaza residents
Injured probably another 4%
Indirect casualties (excess mortality) is still to be assessed.

This is an empirical observation. Before Oct 7, Hamas operatives spoke to Israeli media, often in Hebrew. They had a twitter account in Hebrew.

Boycott, divestment and sanctions are legitimate instruments to get the other side to listen.
But as a campaign and movement, BDS has shown no interest in communicating its message to Israeli society.
Hamas leaders have shown more interest in speaking to Israelis than BDS.
