X-Wings & History
@xwnhist.bsky.social
Public, military, and social history, in this galaxy and beyond. Also TTRPGS and this space camp I went to one time.
We've got 20 missions to play with, which means we've got the space to hang out in some of the lighter mech chassis than Ghost Bear gave us. This is my first time piloting the Shadowhawk IIC and the Huntsman, and both are phenomenal rides.

Best I could do with a rickety folding ladder and a few mismatched light strings. Merry Cheeses for us Mices, everyone.

More seriously, I think Ranna makes the first time a @michaelastackpole.bsky.social is playable in a video game!

He's named and painted in the image of SK-620 of the Galactic Starcruiser, a brave little droid who was both super cool to interact with, touched off the best mission chain down on Batuu (you had to meet a contact at Oga's), and joined the Resistance in his own right at the end.

I finally started work on my fic connecting the OG X-Wing game with Canon and eventually Squadrons. My main character comes from Chandrila, and I figure part of that planet's support of the Rebellion would include Chandrila Star Line astromechs that fell off the back of the truck. Meet SK-823!

Something I really love about this movie is that it shows, visually and viscerally, is how it feels to use the Force. It never says it out loud, but that freeze frame at the start of the fight is the vision both Rey and Kylo saw that powers this whole middle act of the film.

Isard, meanwhile, proved a valuable case study in why you don't put fanatics in charge of major industries.

It's just easier to bribe the people who are already there, or fill the soulless void within them with promises of power. See file: Bratt, Winshur.

I've said this elsewhere, but my headcanon is that Warlord Zsinj was the case study about whether or not a gigantic Star Destroyer could viably be a mobile capital for a stellar empire.

Of course, Zsinj had no idea he was playing the role assigned to him in a much bigger game.

Perfect. Perfect little moment that engages for the first time on film in this series with how strange and delightful travelling between worlds with wildly different environments would be.

Star Trek does this all the time - it's right in the title of Strange New Worlds - but Star Wars rarely does.

Clan Wolf is arguably the main character faction for Battletech's most popular era and we have not been able to play as them since before the Lewinsky Scandal broke.

This scene with Snoke is probably top five for the entire Sequel trilogy and one of the people involved looked like this.

Laura Su is such a tragic figure. She's the number 2 pilot on the meanest ship in the fleet (with her own custom helmet and everything!), and she's just not good enough.

The Parisian mob found a guy who suggested the poor should eat hay and did this to him.
