The time commitment is more flexible: if you have 10 hours a week to share, great! If you have only two, there are ways to make those count just as much. Mutual aid is also more inclusive. Regardless of your physical or financial situation, it’s easy to get involved. For example, inventory management volunteers are crucial to Distribute Aid’s work. They ensure we’re sending the right items to the right destination in the right quantities. This is work that can be done by people with disabilities, or people who are undocumented. You don’t have to put yourself at risk to make a difference.

Tan background with connected lines and dots, white rectangle for text, reading For folks who are curious about who built the website: Our comrade Eliza, a former labor organizer with the Fight for $15 campaign to raise the minimum wage took on the task of building the website. After organizing strikes of fast food workers all across the country, she became the Digital Program Director for the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) in California. Despite years spent on the frontlines organizing, she had a moment of personal radicalization in 2022 when Roe v. Wade was overturned. She couldn’t sit back while the government stripped her and other women of the rights over their own bodies. She knew we needed a General Strike, so she connected with groups who were already organizing for one. Together, the coalition did some research and found that movements engaging in 3.5% of the population never failed to bring about change. Eliza took weeks of reading and strategizing to wrap her head around that goal: 11 million Americans. She knew we’d need a decentralized organizing model with the most advanced digital tools to be able to organize at scale. So, she got together with her friend and built the website, not with the intention of building their own organization, but rather of uniting all groups fighting for racial, economic, and environmental justice under a common cause with the potential to radically change the country. We are thrilled you all are here and that we’re finally gaining some traction, but neither Eliza or anyone here owns the concept of a general strike - folks have been organizing with this goal in mind for HUNDREDS of years. So, let’s keep that tradition going!
