We are not doubting the existence of LC or the validity of the issues it causes

We are saying that if someone suffers cognitive disabilities so bad that they don't remember to actually register for college (actual example from the comments), maybe now is not the time to attend college

Do you think sending the kids to college when they are struggling to read and think coherently is going to help them?
Someone has already pointed out that kids suffering Long Covid, or any medical issue affecting the brain, should get support. College is not support

I've ordered from them, and it was good. Although I think I was getting oolong so I can't speak to their black tea selection

Imperial Teas Of Lincoln was the one I was going to recommend

I don't do complicated shit with my machine so I keep them for ages. It's stuck through the update to a new laptop now and I have given up
November 29, 2025 at 4:29 PM
Oh god yes

My husband got fed up of being admin to my laptop, so when I got a new one, I set myself as admin. He borrowed it once, and I have spent literally years trying to get the thing to stop defaulting back to him being admin. I managed it once, and at the next update, it undid it

There are people who have been campaigning for asylum seekers to get bus passes for years, so obviously they will instead have to work out a route and pay for each individual trip separately, because that's so sensible
November 29, 2025 at 4:20 PM
The problem is that those who made it through school despite LC are going on to college, because there isn't an alternative. This isn't good for anyone

Closer look, the Co-op should probably complain about that branding if it's not theirs
November 29, 2025 at 1:38 PM
It's the UK. That's a normal pavement here, and I think it's a Co-op branded robot
November 29, 2025 at 1:36 PM
Oh, and we switched to fortnightly

We've been getting a veg box for years, with occasional breaks when I know we won't have the time or energy to cook that way, and it's a real adjustment, even though I mostly cooked from scratch before

I scrub everything that needs it when the box arrives, otherwise it won't get used
November 29, 2025 at 1:23 PM
Yep, it's a terrible bargain

I still think about the story someone told about the recipe book her grandmother had, which all the daughters wanted. Eventually, they opened it, to find it blank, except for a note inside "Book I pretend contains recipes"

Same thread: "a spoon" in family recipes meant a specific spoon grandma had

A couple of eclipses and some bad weather would trigger an immediate need for some kind of sacrifice, a la Wicker Man
November 28, 2025 at 12:20 AM
That tracks

Like people suggesting that 50 year mortgages should happen because houses are too fucking expensive

And as a bonus, you get to pay mansion tax on the property you probably can't use and will have to spend millions on unfurbishing
November 27, 2025 at 11:47 PM
Also, borrowing over 7 years, no wonder the interest is huge. Or is that normal in the US?

I don't drive so I have no real frame of reference but I had the vague idea that 4 years was pretty normal

My theory is that giving one author a huge advance is publicity for the publishing house

They market authors to readers, and they use lists to sell authors to bookshop buyers and libraries

But they also need agents to send them that promising new author's book. Big advances attract them

It's so ugly I don't do it often 🤷

Turns out that was lucky for me
