Tegan did an amazing job exploring live fuel moisture dynamics in common Intermountain West US shrubs and extending the mechanistic LFMC model to provide inputs for QuicFIRE, a CFD-based fire behavior model. This work can be applied to any shrub worldwide.

The area burned in the Canadian 2025 fire season has hit 5 million ha. Third active fire season in a row that combined has burned 7% of the Canadian forest. Currently we have 346 fires out of control (192 monitored out of control (OC) and 154 OC that are being actioned) so expect the number to rise.

Prescribed fires reduced subsequent 2020 wildfire burn severity by -16% in the western US. Rx fire treatments led to a net reduction of -14% in smoke emissions, as sum from treatment-plus-subsequent-wildfire.
