New: A judge in Washington has ruled images from Flock surveillance cameras are public records and that anyone can request them. Highlights the pervasiveness of this tech and just how much surveillance is being done. Very notable ruling

Judge Rules Flock Surveillance Images Are Public Records That Can Be Requested By Anyone
A Washington judge said images taken by Flock cameras are "not exempt from disclosure" in public record requests.

everything about this is SO on-brand...
This concentration camp was opened at Fort Bliss, the site of a former Japanese internment camp.

It also cost over $1B in private contracts to build in a place meant to hold 1000 people. So, basically it’s a fascist grift.

So I try not to give too many gory details about life with long covid, but I also think it’s important to give a clear picture of what can happen to anyone.

Over the last yearish, I’ve become allergic to more than 70 foods. Today I lost soy. I’m not how long I can keep eating at all.

After looking around at this, it is pretty disturbing that @bsky.app seems indifferent to all the requests for an explanation.

Anyway, the decision to suspend Sarah Kendzior’s account appears to have been intentional rather than a false positive moderation flag.

This is far from being the first instance of disturbing and seemingly inexplicable moderation decisions on this platform.

I doubt they will reinstate her account.
Moderation has always been the primary weakness of this platform.

In most relationships, the initially identified faultline eventually becomes the terminal one.

I hate to think that will be the case with Bluesky, but I suspect it will.

Short of calling for targeted violence or self-harm—which I can’t imagine Sarah doing—the threshold for suspending the account of a journalist should be EXTREMELY high. This response to the outcry is only undermining trust further, @aaron.bsky.team. But it’s clear her suspension was NOT inadvertent.
False attribution. If a person is suspended it is because of their identity? Could it not be because of their content? I wrote about it here aaron.leaflet.pub/3m52nqqmk322v

Hello @support.bsky.team

I heard from Sarah Kendzior @sarahkendzior.bsky.social that her account was suspended.

Can you please look into this and reinstate her account? She’s a published author and scholar on authoritarianism. Her presence here is valuable.

In his 1992 novel, "Snowcrash," Neil Stephenson wrote about "National Sacrifice Zones" - polluted places where the cost of clean-up exceeds all future, foreseeable economic benefit, and thus are simply surrounded by chain link, and declared off-limits.
FYI
“Cleaning up the Alberta oilpatch could cost an estimated $260 Billion, internal regulatory documents warn.
The staggering financial liabilities for the energy industry’s mining waste and graveyard of spent facilities were spelled out by a high-ranking official of the AER…”
