Proudly from PEI. #Author of #TinCanCanucks &

So I was at Fair’s Fair warehouse in #yyc today and found a 2nd hand copy of #tincancanucks signed by the author (me😁) on the shelf. That it was going for $9–1/2 the cover $—says something about its resale $ I guess; but at least 1 more person will get a chance to read it now!

#OTD in 1951 #HMCSFraser was laid down at Burrard Drydock in North #YVR. Commissioned in 1957 she served the #RCN until 1994. Last of the St. Lawrence class, the next ship to bear the name will be the first of Canada’s new River-class destroyers in the 2030s #TinCanCanucks #NavalHistory

Glasgow was joined by #HMSCornwall in sinking Liepzig. Cornwall was the sister ship to #HMSMonmouth which had been sunk at Coronel. #histscalemodel #scalemodel #modelwarship #Falklands110

#OTD in 1914 VAdm. Sturdee’s squadron seeking von Spee’s raiders were found by them instead, as Spee saw the Falkland Is. Realizing he was outgunned he made for open sea. The British gave chase & sank every German warship but one, Dresden. #HMSGlasgow, Coronel survivor sank Leipzig. #Falklands110

The 1/144 Kilo is painted & ready for weathering. I love weathering (narrator: he hates weathering, especially ships). And you might have seen the little guy prowling the background. He’s a 1/200 Bronco Kilo and a WAY nicer kit to work on. #modelwarship #modelsubmarine

A fun #StarTrek kit. 1/1000 Polar Lights kit modified to represent the Masao-class USS Ashigara. A bit top-heavy due to the solid resin saucer and the need for a hollow stand for lighting. One of my #modelling projects from 2023 #scalemodel #starship

#OTD in 1942 #HMCSIroquois (G89) was commissioned into the #RoyalCanadianNavy. She was 1st of her class (and of her name) to serve the #RCN in WW2, Korea, & the Cold War. She decommissioned in 1962. #TinCanCanucks #kindlebook buff.ly/2WRadCO, #paperback buff.ly/3CAllMB #NavalHistory

While I don’t love winter like I used to when I was younger it still has it’s beauty

#OTD in 1970 #HMCSIroquois (DDG 280) was launched at Sorel, QC. She was the first of her class and served the #RCN until 2015. The 280s were groundbreaking #COGOG ships built in Canada. #TinCanCanucks #kindlebook buff.ly/2WRadCO, #paperback buff.ly/3CAllMB #NavalHistory

Over the weekend I binged all 80 issues of #marvelcomics #transformers and remembered the joy I had as a kid when I got the latest issue in the post. I subscribed starting with issue 5– #shockwave triumphant! #comic #comicbook #nostalgia

#OTD in 1936 #HMCSVancouver (F6A) was decommissioned. She was one of two WW1 vintage S-class destroyers which served the #RCN from 1928. Built by Thornycroft she was, with #HMCSSkeena, a key part of Canada’s west coast naval defence throughout the early 1930s. #TinCanCanucks #NavalHistory

Thinking of a #Christmas gift for a current or former Canadian sailor in your life? Could I humbly suggest #TinCanCanucks ( #kindlebook buff.ly/2WRadCO, #paperback buff.ly/3CAllMB ). The reviews look good! 👍😎

One of my WIP #scalemodels : a 1/144 scale Project 636 Kilo-class SSK. Building it for my ping-bosun daughter who says it’s her favourite sub to hunt (in simulators only so far). Strange scale for me; I usually build ships in 1/72 or 1/350 #histscalemodels #scalemodels #naval

130 years ago, in November of 1894, Yarrow of Poplar, London laid down a new torpedo boat destroyer for Russian service. Named Sokol (in Russian: Сокол - Falcon) she was the 1st of a very large class of TBDs built by and for Imperial Russia. Yarrow was a leader in development of TBDs. #NavalHistory
