It's been a while since I bothered looking, but Tim Farrar usually has good analysis. Seems last time he spoke about it was quoted in uk.pcmag.com/networking/1... .

If you think Starlink's revenue is sufficient to sustain the company, I have really bad news for you.. They are burning through an awful lot of cash to build and maintain the constellation and the few numbers they have released don't suggest a healthy revenue.

It's all the result of a very calculated PR process to paint him as a genius and erase the real contributors to his success, like the original founders of Tesla who were kicked out once they started getting more press than him.. And I wouldn't consider China a success story either - their approach has a low regard for safety (just look at their launchers dropping stages full of highly toxic fuels over populated areas).

The reason US/EU has not gone further is just lack of desire to finance the effort.

Original SpaceX is a success - it proved reusable rockets are financially/safety viable and provided an alternative to the duopoly of space companies (ULA and Boeing).
Now? It is so focused on Musk's stupid plans (starship and starlink) that it's burning through cash and general approval.
