I am fascinated by them too, but their fragility inspires an uneasy sense of dread following the massive ice storm in southern Quebec, eastern Ontario, and parts of northern New England that we endured in early January 1998. 🥶

There is an online store in Alberta that sells a bunch of fun T-shirts, @kopke613.bsky.social. Here is one that I love wearing, the Certified Canadian Donor. He has another for Alberta separatists, the BLOC Rednéckquois shirt. Also hoodie and long sleeve styles. I’m happy with the ones I have.

We have a flowering Hawthorn tree in our backyard where I string holiday lights in the winter. Great view from the dining room, kitchen and upstairs bathroom.
The lights start going up at the end of November and come down in early March. Any later and the squirrels get busy chewing the wires.

My daughter has resurrected plants that look much worse. Her potted hibiscus plants look like sticks after wintering indoors and look pretty good by midsummer.
