I'm not against AI in data use in football, but I don't really want the same guys who run the CCTV running the recruitment room...

I'd be much more impressed if the club put together a team of experienced football recruiting execs with a track record of using established leading data systems

I cannot recommend Tiv Rushesha's Youtube channel enough - check out his latest video to see a bunch of remonstrating and dancing on a ping pong table 😂

It's a 3-box-3 actually in buildup, here you can see it really clearly. Jacob again the high wide player on the left.

Doyle and Lane (Second Striker and Half Winger) drop in

Lane and Kyerewaa swapped sides a few times in the first half

442 when pressing, more 4231 when deeper

Some early tweaks for Leam's #readingfc

Jacob very high here in buildup. Puts Lane into the half space and draws attention

3-2 buildup where one of the 6s or GK will help to create an angle

This goes thru Stevens to the underloaded weak side where Doyle finds a soft spot to turn upfield

Which First XI do you think is better?

Lined up what I think was #readingfc at "full strength" in the second half of last season vs what I think was probably our strongest lineup of this season

I'd say 24/25 is clearly stronger on defence but the attack is better this year in my opinion

Reading under Hunt get 27% fewer touches in the box vs the same team under Selles in 23/24.

And make no mistake, that 23/24 team was good, not great, so it's not like we're comparing to perfection

Jayden Wareham giving it the big one to #readingfc fans while his replacement has already scored today, and reached double the number of League One Goals as Wareham - Chef's Kiss

16 shots for #readingfc but most of them from this cow pasture

Mansfield with 7 shots in the box to our 6 and 3 right in front of the keeper. That's the kind of chance I'd like to see us work more often

I do like the players at least, and think we've assembled a pretty decent squad.

Instead, Burns perfectly times his pass and rolls it quickly across the ground against the grain of play - you can see this immediately forces one SHU player to turn.

Really impressively executed pass that breaks a line and with another wall pass, HUL are out

#readingfc's replacement for Bindon?
July 8, 2025 at 9:40 PM
This widest SHU presser slows his run, partially because he spots the HUL player checking to the ball behind him, but also because he wants to bait Burns into passing to the RB.

If Burns does that, then with SHU's momentum taking them from left to right, they could get quick pressure on the RB

I really like this pass from #readingfc's new signing Finley Burns

Good vision, timing, and technique

Here he receives the ball, SHU's press is pretty well established and there's not an obvious easy out

Play is moving from the left to the right with SHU's pressers following at a cautious pace

Me (right) while #readingfc fans (left) were panicking about the lack of signings last week

I think I like it, not going to lie. I always prefer the shirts that have 5-7 hoops rather than 3-4, but this is ok for an example of the latter.

Definitely makes me think we should get some interesting #Readingfc away kits this year, which is always what I'm on the lookout for anyway!

Fun fact: I love going to Minor League Baseball games over here (go Sea Dogs 🦭)

I therefore had to ask Rob about what he learned while running the New Orleans Zephyrs and what could be applied to #readingfc

What a season for Joel Pereira!

Easily my #readingfc player of the season and probably the best season for a Royals keeper since Rafael in 2019/20

Ignore the American times

I'd say #readingfc have the easiest run in vs Huddersfield and Bolton

Reading have also played better against tough opponents recently though, so is that a good thing?

The last top half opponents for Reading left are Barnsley and Lincoln, both basically on the beach

Ben and I decided to record today so that we can revel in the positive result against the Posh

The win takes Noel to 1.5 PPG in League One this year, not quite reaching Selles' 24/25 avg, but beating 23/24.

And on positive results - Noel's got the highest % of them, highlighted by the unbeaten run
March 31, 2025 at 3:32 PM
Good chat with @mrblthomas.bsky.social on the pod this week

We both felt the recent unbeaten run doesn't "feel" encouraging for the playoff race because of the draws

But of the playoff contenders, #readingfc have scored the 3rd highest number of points in the last 5 games (9)
