But it's quite interesting to think about what implications the distinction has for characterisation, trueness-to-canon etc.

For me, the distinction was mainly the one between 'author gets character into a situations that reader finds sexy, character is unaware puppet in the enactment of the readers kink' vs. 'character has a kink that they are aware of and take action to satisfy' as plot.

I honestly live in fear of forgetting what I heard someone say, and coming up with what I believe to be my own idea while actually copying someone else's.
