"you can get into a lot of arguments about politics, but like, on the topic of whether its a good idea to forge pig iron in your kitchen mostly" "does anything nice happen in it" "no"

...but though running around and tapping each other in the shoulder and shouting defensive calls at each other isn't a really good depiction of what we'd imagine happening in a fantasy story, it DOES make us feel excited and invested while we struggle to win a light sport!

I don't know - there's sort of like, an affective and emotional arc to the rules interaction, even if it isn't mapping on to one onto what's being described in the game. I play a foam sword LARP, and if we stopped and did stage-style combat, it would depict a the "events" of the game more seriously-

When I play Plam, I do sort of pick the MSQ options she would pick and imagine what effect she would give as the WoL: I see it as her playing the role in my performance of the MSQ.
In roleplay, I act as if all WoL claimants are true and actually did it, glossing over discrepancies.

The appeal of MOBAs is that they create a play environment where people who like defeating others from a position of advantage and supremacy can indulge that fantasy against other people who also like that instead of needing to get it from people who would rather be left alone

another example of that I like a lot is how in "The Woman Named Fujiko Mine", Lupin creates an aura that makes it a gonzo goofy action show. Fujiko will be knee-deep in a psycho-thriller in which she is seducing a schoolgirl that's a cop in disguise at a catholic school and Lupin barges in -

The punchline is that the best equipment in the game is purchased from connoisseurs using the game's first currency ironically, which now requires endgame challenges to farm
