And when I look at this goofy, gaunt, young & innocent (but not so innocent) 17 year-old kid, I know that that’s the best part of being an artist: the struggle is what makes you who you are.

But I get it - at least I had a notion of a career, an inkling of a direction of where I could go. So, yeah - that I get. But I will say again, it wasn’t so easy.

And really, that’s okay. The struggle, they say, is real.

Also, my struggles continued in trying to figure out just what type of artist I was going to be - cartoonist? Fine artist? Graphic designer? What? The avenues weren’t clearly defined as it might’ve seemed to be for me.

My role had already been established. No need to wonder. I didn’t have the heart to tell them that it wasn’t so simple. I struggled for years with this label “artist” because I hated to be labeled so easily, hated to be confined into a box.

It’s a strange thing, to look back 39 years at a time when I was just as confused and curious about my future as anyone I graduated with. I’ve had several former classmates tell me in recent years that they were kinda envious of me back then because I already knew what I was going to be...

I’ve scanned the entire thing recently and for some reason I haven’t composited it together to watch it again after so many years. Some day!

Sometimes I wish we all could get together and talk IRL and share things we all like and are getting into, reading, drawing, listening to, etc etc

Oh, I love it. It's been a lot of fun for both of us, that's for sure

This is EXACTLY what's going through my mind when I am sent a new message and my mom asks "Did you know about this???" In my head I'm going MOM YES I KNOW ALL ABOUT IT PLUS SO MUCH MORE but will simply reply, "Oh, isn't that great?" So funny 😫

And my answer to each post/viral video she shares with me via IG or text message is "yes" or "yup!" I do love that she's excitedly sharing with me but I know good 'n well that not *one* person would've given a crap about Flowers and Trees or Koko the Clown if I brought it up back in the day!
