I’d have to think a bit for the others, but I’d say Chilton is Hannibal’s literary foil in a way. He tries to emulate Hannibal’s style and suaveness but he doesn’t have “the proper stuff”, is I believe what Hannibal said to him. (That whole scene might be a good example - Frederick losing his cool,

No I think he admires that she found him on her own (or through his own carelessness with the drawing), she wasn’t rude. Also maybe practicing and perfecting hypnosis, so he could have her point at someone else as a backup plan. It all came together perfectly when he found
