I said it before, will say it again -- generative AI fetishizes "ideas" while sneering at effort, execution, and education. That, despite Gen-AI being built on and out of other people's effort, execution and education.
A.I. and the Fetishization Of Ideas
In writing and in dispensing my (very dubious, probably shady) writing advice, I am often keen to note that ideas are bullshit. Most writers treat them like precious gems when really, ideas are lik…

Is it very pathetic that even though I know they’re AI-written scams, I’m still enjoying these “I just found your book and it’s brilliant here let me review it for the low low price of a buncha money” emails?

Call them “slutty” if you wish, but my books are all sex-positive, and I’m proud of that.
Why is sex-as-punishment or sex-as-suffering elevated as art, but as soon as you see characters having sex for the pure pleasure of it, it's immediately dismissed? Why do we have so many graphic depictions of sexual assault and sexual trauma and so very few of sexual fulfillment? Rly makes u think

Texas' 2025 congressional map is at the center of a legal battle, but the U.S. Supreme Court ruled Dec. 4 that Texas could use the new map for the 2026 primaries while that fight plays out.

Use our lookup tool to see what your district looks like under the new map.

The entire U.S. population is in the low hundreds of millions (340m), meaning that according to NoemMath, nearly all of us were on track for a cocaine-related death. I am so grateful to have been saved.

No, on Thanksgiving I don’t want to think about what my country is doing to the world.

But this is reality. I’m so sorry, world. We deserve your scorn.
No idea why an Afghan refugee shot National Guard soldiers within walking distance of the White House, but this new USCIS directive was revealed on Monday. Worth noting.
The folks at @afghanevac.bsky.social have in hand a new USCIS directive which largely targets Afghan refugees who fled the Taliban in the wake of the U.S. withdrawal in 2021.

In case you needed a reminder that the most loathsome people in the world work for DHS.

Lots of people sharing this clip because it's funny and cathartic but I also genuinely believe it's important.

We have to win the narrative battle between "I live in a corrupt society and that's just how it is" and "I live in a corrupt society and we are going to defeat and humiliate these ghouls."
Good morning to Brazilian reporter Manuela Borges, who’s been waiting eleven years for this petty moment. ❤️ 🇧🇷

The whole fam is here for Thanksgiving. There's cleaning and cooking and game playing and massive loud beautiful chaos. I'm in my office finishing up an editing project. I thought I wouldn't be able to work with all this activity, but I'm getting stuff done.

I ... might be able to write again?

Funny because it’s true. Sad because it’s true.
You could get Trump to play in a mariachi band and drop the 82nd Airborne on Crimea if you peeled him away from Stephen Miller and Witkoff long enough.

We need to stop inviting the monster to dinner and telling him he looks snazzy. Chris Murphy is right. We have already normalized too much.
The President of the United States just called for Democratic members of Congress to be executed. "HANG THEM", he posted.

If you're a person of influence in this country and you haven't picked a side, maybe now would be the time to pick a fucking side.

Yesterday, Trump defended the Saudi Crown Prince in the Oval Office.

He said he had “nothing” to do with the murder of Jamal Khashoggi.

But I reviewed a call while serving on Trump’s NSC that I believe would be of interest to the Khashoggi family and the American people.

Release the transcript.

FAFO AI might be the most 2024esque thing a human could say. But I’m okay being old-fashioned like that.
When the housing bubble popped, it affected the whole economy because housing/mortgages are necessary.

Nobody needs AI slop. No bailouts for the dipshits who bought and sold the beans and it turns out they weren't magical ones.

I suspect Trump’s permission to vote for release of Epstein files really means his minions have finally finished scrubbing his name from said files.
This part. He could have released them in January on day 1 of his presidency, and he CHOSE not to.

Why Trump’s self-inflicted inflation feels so much worse than Biden’s pandemic-recovery inflation. Also why it is likely to devolve rather than improve unless the SCOTUS grows a spine.
When prices rise because *demand* is hot, wages usually follow. When prices rise because tariffs raise costs -- a *supply* shock -- there’s no reason paychecks catch up. That’s why tariff inflation hurts a whole heckuva lot more. It's a permanent reduction in living standards.
