It was all good for me until there were parked cars on both sides of the road 💀

That's when it gets scary

It's just a really nihilist take. Like there isn't a single shred of hope for the future other than a passive 'maybe someday American policy will change'.

It’s bizarre. It’s basically an essay on why she won’t make a video about a situation when she could have simply said “I make videos about philosophy and sociology in the context of American online culture, not genocide. I don’t feel qualified to make a funny video about a topic so serious.”

this is exactly it. I go to Contrapoints for philosophy of the mind, not for politics itself. All of her videos touch politics to an extent, but only Voting and Conspiracy are super political in terms of recent output.

Twilight is unironically a masterpiece. Contra is for interesting art, philosophy and psychology insights. Maybe political philosophy also to an extent, more so a few years ago.
I think some ppl want/expect her to be primarily political, and in a real, policy way which I never understood

I think contrapoints has been a lefty influencer since before that was really a thing, and being attacked by legitimately the most annoying people in the world for a decade can make you reactionary

But I also think basing your idea of what the left thinks on redditors and Twitter reply guys is bad

on a serious note my concern on reading it is less about the precise content of the post and more about the fact that contra is showing preliminary signs of reactionary centrist brain poisoning, where the state of online lefty discourse occupies an increasingly central space in the brain

It’s not something I’d witch-hunt over, but it’s pretty dumb to only criticize the online left that has little control over the situation, instead of the governments that are actually perpetrating it. It’s not the activists’ fault that the government isn’t listening to them

I really want to agree but I'm shuddering thinking about how the average early 20s gen z would react to her content 😭

Her earlier content was a great Trojan horse for 2016 millennials, but I don't think she'd mix well with my generation's purity culture

A lot of people (including contra) are addicted to the outrage cycles and the incessant hate. It's an incredibly toxic pattern tbh

Maybe I'm just soft, but I think it's fair to not want to be tagged in pictures of dead children. And she called it a genocide months ago, she's on our side here.

I'm brown and ik she's not racist... unfortunately commenting this isn't gonna convince people who have already decided that a random white woman in Baltimore is the devil incarnate

She's talked about this in a bit more detail, basically she can't find unhinged right wingers on here, and so she feels less plugged into the direction of politics. To an extent, she is addicted to the toxicity of twitter, she almost has to be for her job
