A relic from the past? Vieux Temps beer was introduced by Brasserie Grade in 1930 & won several international awards in the 50s. In the 70s a commercial arrangement with Artois saw the future giant's marketing weight thrown behind Vieux Temps, while production of its own Leffe beer was moved to...

Here's a #map view of the same, illustrating that north does not have to equal up, especially from space

It's @bandcamp.com friday! So I just bought Mo Léan by RÓIS. Fantastic new music yet thousands of years old, as RÓIS brings ancient keening to the modern world

Sometimes we read through a #music magazine and take the #photography for granted but actually a lot of it is just fantastic. Here's a little selection seen in @mojomagazine.bsky.social #386 last month. Credits in alt text

+1 in my little Frankenstein collection is Ahmed Saadawi's Frankenstein in Baghdad in which a (new) monster gets a very modern setting. Here with George Bess' excellent graphic version (@glenatbd.bsky.social) and a fine #map of the original tale by Literary Maps

Enniskillen's Boatyard Distillery and their Old Tom #Gin, aged in Pedro Xímenez sherry casks, served on ice (or here, on all of Mt Everest in guise of ice)

The complex tale of Grimbergen beers & how the Euro giants carve up the market. French Grim is brewed by Kronenbourg (Carlsberg); Belgian Grim by Alken-Maes (Heineken). But there is also a micro brewery at the abbey where a monk is brouwmeester. All use the 1128 date & the phoenix logo.

Visited the Gothiques exhibition @louvrelens.bsky.social. Plenty of works from the original gothic period but also right up to date with modern works inspired by them, including goth culture and comic books

I never, ever buy those sickly sweet imperial pastry stouts. But this is a Blueberry Cheesecake Imperial 𝘗𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘦𝘳, so, that's OK? Tbf it's very nice and hides its 12% abv quite well. Emperor's are in deepest darkest Leicestershire, but my can was brewed by Dugges in 🇸🇪

Back to Duvel, this time for their Imperial Blond. Strong & malty. Not sure it adds a lot beyond the standard Duvel though, I'd probably rather 2 of those than 1 of these

Saw this image in a couple of sites on a story on measles in Canada, and i eventually found out the 2nd language is Low German, which apparently is strong enough in southern Alberta to warrant bilingual signage

Little sampler of a Calvados Pays d'Auge XO (minimum 20 yo) from Château du Breuil. It's super smooth, really enjoyable. The appellation requires a double distillation of cider from local apples only

Boeschepe Bier brewed by van Eecke (one of the Leroy breweries: think Poperinges Hommelbier or Kapittel) which fits rather well in front of my Flemish panorama from the mont de Kemmel. Boeschepe village is unmarked but just on the other side of le mont Noir as seen from here

A 1st time try of Brasserie du Gorguechon's 7.5% stout, and it's really rather good. A bonus 𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘳é𝘥𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘥𝘶 𝘯𝘰𝘳𝘥 is chicory, which balances the coffee notes really well. Paired with my go-to stout glass from Fuller's with its Thames map, in white
