Y'ALL ARE MISSING OUT ON ALL THE DRAMA

Life would have compounded so hard if I had been as good at things in my 20s and 30s as I am in my 40s. I was good at my job, sure, but I’m an incredible generalist now man what the hell.

I used to be like “just planted a tree need a nap”.

Literally incomprehensible to me now.

Mixed together some dough during my lunch break. It should be a nice surprise for my wife when she comes home. An afternoon delight.

Another simple thing I’d not thought of-

Friend was doing a “2024 miles in 2024” challenge. Told her I simply don’t have time most days to run 6 miles at a time.

She said “that’s why I break it up into 2 to 3 shorter runs”.

I was on a call with another principal engineer and I said "okay we both have that other call now" and they said "you don't have to go to every meeting you're invited to" and I admit I had seriously not considered just ignoring invites. But honestly no other way to scale.

My 10 year old yelled at me yesterday. I was angry and hurt, and wanted to ensure she didn't do it again. Unlike our parents' generation, I don't hit my kids, so I had to resort to making unkindness highly inconvenient.

in the 9-5 world right now, admitting you used ai to do your job is like when people first started using dating apps

Of all the things I’ve tried to improve the quality & amount of sleep I get, the one that works best is just going to sleep earlier

It’s just hard when there’s so much to do!

Invited a teammate to review a 1-page architecture plan with me at 9am, so here I am still writing it

Watched a video where this guy (Mario Tomic) talked about a "strategic calorie buffer". He eats a smaller breakfast + lunch, and saves up 50% of the calorie budget for dinner because it's easier to make up a deficit than going "oh crap I have 150 cals left".

I like it.

I wish Bluesky supported long form content so I don’t have to artificially break up posts into threads.

I think that has ultimately been a good decision on Twitter (though I think it’s only a thing for paid users).

my current disastrous experience with vibe-coding is that it's been really good for creating crud apps and singular pages that contain all necessary context

but i've given up on building complex artifacts.

“do you know how much you owe this year honey?” — my accountant

I thought it might be bad but when she called me honey I knew I was fucked.

Last week I picked up some grab n go sandwiches at an airport store and the cashier said “please note that we are paid $2.13 per hour plus tips as you consider the next question” before turning the ipad toward me.

So brazen that I was caught off-guard & made him repeat himself.

I want to do a "a day in the life" video but it looks like so much freaking work setting up and moving around a tripod over and over.

It’s my wife’s birthday. I asked what she wants and she said our beautiful marriage already overwhelms her in all the ways she could possibly think of.

So as a treat, I’m giving her a new washing machine. Very disappointed that Best Buy is refusing to gift wrap it.

Everyone is always talking about how you’re dumb for wasting money on Doordash, or how Doordash is crucial if you’re disabled.

But today I was driving around town and my 7yo wanted boba and I just didn’t care to try to find parking so I got it chauffeured to my front door.

my wife does this thing now and then where she'll say "i need a timeout. they're your kids now," and then disappear for 30 mins to an hour to read a book.
