Right. Breakfast. Other half away for week in Scotland for astronomy field trip. Off downstairs for a pot of coffee, toast, papers in front of fire. Then off to lead a walk at Gibside. Don't think weather is going to be too balmy ...

Well I've made 5 jars of gooseberry jame today, mainly to get last years out of the freezer cos this year's are ready to pick. And I've tried to make a ramen broth, all ready to add stuff once we've had some wine & gossip

This on the capitalist mindset, written by him in 1928, has also aged well:

“Advocates of capitalism are very apt to appeal to the sacred principles of liberty, which are embodied in one maxim: The fortunate must not be restrained in the exercise of tyranny over the unfortunate.”

I always go back to this. Its down to us, always has been
"Our planet is a lonely speck in the great enveloping cosmic dark. In our obscurity, in all this vastness, there is no hint that help will come from elsewhere to save us from ourselves. The Earth is the only world known so far to harbor life."
