I spoke with UN Secretary-General António Guterres today. In this time of rising conflict, Canada is ready to lead.

We will build coalitions, defend democracy, and stand up for our values on the world stage. As others step back from global leadership, Canada is stepping up.

Ok. Here is a very specific request, though. Randomize the heck out of it so we can finally calculate price elasticities required for welfare calculations in trade models

My sabbatical leave allowed me to reflect on my professional life.

As I’ve stepped into more senior roles in academia (plus gotten a bit older), I often get asked:

“How do you keep writing academic articles, policy work, opinion pieces, while juggling everything else?”

My answer: skillpower

Is it good that the Treasury secretary is not sure about the newly decided and announced tariff policy towards one of our largest trading partners...
COLLINS: China has this 34% tariff. There were already 20% tariffs on China. So is that 34% on top of that, meaning it's a 54% tariff on China?

BESSENT: I believe it is

Wow this is wild.

James: "The Trump team didn't actually calculate tariff rates + non-tariff barriers, as they say they did. Instead, for every country, they just took our trade deficit with that country and divided it by the country's exports to us."

It's an upward tax spiral.

Trade "war" vests it with undeserved martial valor.

It's just elected officials piling up a lot of new taxes.

The Trump Administration Accidentally Texted Me Its War Plans
U.S. national-security leaders included me in a group chat about upcoming military strikes in Yemen. I didn’t think it could be real. Then the bombs started falling.
