Miss the era of Tumblr where you could post, “what do you think my style is?” and you would get 10 reblogs. Now no one tells me what my style is.

One of my favorite things about being a writer is answering questions from kids who know me from the Piggy books. The LEGO set questions was hard until I figured out my answer to the first question.

I’m glad that lovable red plumber says “it’s a me, Mario” because sometimes I forget.

What constitutes being “finished” with a page is up to each cartoonist. You have Charles Schulz drawing a few squiggles for a wall and then you have Juanjo Guarnido doing elaborate layouts of each background. The only wrong way is pushing yourself towards something that doesn’t feel satisfying.

No, I don't want to!!
if you're one person making a comic by yourself, don't treat yourself like you should function on the same level as comics that have multiple people working on them. your backgrounds can be squiggles and colors.

allow yourself room to be abstract with details and give yourself some grace

I can’t believe a key plot point of the new Pokémon game is paying off a payday loan.

Why have a plot that revolves around a reptile version of Black Wall Street and the Tulsa Race Massacre, sanitized as squeaky clean as possible for children? (I’m not kidding.) Why have Shakira pop up throughout the film? Who are the Godfather jokes for? All questions Zootopia 2 can’t answer.

Watched the Crumb documentary again and I was struck by how many critical commentators Zwigoff showcased when it could have been only fawning praise. I don’t have any attachment to Crumb’s work, but I do think it’s an excellent documentary about the kind of derangement it takes to be a cartoonist.

Doing a lot of less than flashy, behind the scenes work to make cool comics. Wish I had more to share, but everything right now is in service of making good books.

I feel sad for the people who don’t believe Godzilla could exist in real life because of “physics” and “science.”

My store is back open with a few items! Have enough energy to put together these packages, so if you didn't get my little art/sketchbook the first time (because it sold out), this is a good chance to do it!

Sometimes you’re on Tubi thinking you’re going to enjoy a nice little documentary about pulp fiction and you stumble on to a propaganda piece by Scientologists?

If you are ever having a bad day, I whole heartedly recommend reading a volume of Dinosaur Sanctuary by @kurinosukeboy.bsky.social to make your day better. It’s far and away my favorite comfort manga.

Everyone jokes about horses and bicycles being some of the worst things you can write into a script, but I like to torture artists by including as many panels of characters walking down staircases as possible.

Happy #portfolioday! Was looking through my portfolio and a project I wish had found a publisher was this kid’s graphic novel pitch called Alexander Zombie’s Afraid of Humans. It follows a little zombie boy who is deathly afraid of humans…until he meets one. Maybe one day it will find a home.
