The cleverness behind the business model was that the loot box businesses were bulk-buying dead stock, unprofitable junk clogging up someone’s warehouse. So, it was cheap, and could be resold at a nice discount. That way, even if buyers weren’t crazy about what they got, it still felt like a deal.
