Always important to remember that this is because these robots are "faking" being human

Theyre actually capable of way more and way weirder stuff

the thing no-one told me about Pale Fire is how stupid the jokes are in it. i mean that positively.

this is a slightly annoying response to the above thread, but you got into Linux so I think it's allowed. can you enable RSS for your newsletter? I'm trying to add it but it can't find it.

You don't realize how much just using the colors of sappanwood-derived dyes makes a setting "look Asian" until you actually just look at those colors

on behalf of all of us who had our peak moment of relevance around 2013-2015ish, thank you.

HORSES is out here seemingly single-handedly resurrecting all the games discourses that died out because of gamergate and blogs dying. what a legacy.

I mean the Narnia kids were made royalty and established a new golden age... and then came home and had to be kids again. What a lovely bittersweet feeling that is! Isekais are more: yeah, so why go home? it sucks! no-one loves you there!
December 5, 2025 at 4:41 PM
sure, but the idea of the story ending with the protagonists home again, they've had a nice adventure but now it's time to get on with real life... that doesn't feel very isekai at all

imagine how deep the kola superdeep borehole must be to a Borrower
December 5, 2025 at 2:44 PM
you don't fit! it's too small!
December 5, 2025 at 2:43 PM
it's definitely not the only way to solve that structural problem! but either way the thing you get with, like, The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe where it's bookended with the normal world and the fantasy continues more or less unbroken in the middle doesn't work.
December 5, 2025 at 2:36 PM
pls imagine a second blog post, where my position has done a 180 and i argue with the same apparent seriousness that it's actually due to the structural constraints of isekai coming out of serialised formats (light novels, manga), where the defined narrative arc of homecoming would be an awkward fit
December 5, 2025 at 2:21 PM
light novels do be like that
December 5, 2025 at 1:01 PM
yeah, i mean i wouldn't be a purist about it, but the classic trope is getting hit by a truck crossing the road, and then when you wake up...

"Reborn as a Vending Machine, I Now Wander the Dungeon". it's on Crunchyroll.

wait, Wizard of Oz is a portal fantasy but Wicked is just some people hanging out having problems in a world not our own.

for some context that does not really explain this post, please refer to bsky.app/profile/gsho... and the chain of QTs within it
Jumanji (1995) is not technically a Jumanji. Jumanji (1995) investigates the aftermath of a Jumanji thirty years previously and is technically a Hellraiser
Thanks for your help! Here’s what I’ve found:
- Girl Underground
- This World Keeps Summoning Heroes
- Many classes, few systems

And:
- DIE is not an Isekai
- DCCarl is not an Isekai
- Any TTRPG could be an Isekai, why bother
- All TTRPGs are obviously Isekai already and I am a stultifying buffoon
