made my first ever jewellery! look at these! porcelain & lavafleck clay, with a little transparent glaze, on sterling silver findings. I would take a nicer picture but it's midnight & I literally just made these.

Once when I was interrogated by border police (not for the first or last time) they really wanted to know what I did and who I worked for. I gave as clear and straightforward answers as I could, and they kept asking again and again, obviously not believing me. Until one of them finally did a google search and shamefacedly told the other "let him go, everything he's said is true".

I'm learning about Kew Gardens
The next year it was decided, instead, to provide a kiosk for refreshments. In 1909 a resolution from Richmond Trades and Labour Council was successful in proposing that a supply of drinking water should be made available. However, even in a garden where you could not take your picnic and only had water or tea to drink, activities could still take place that were far from innocent. On 18 December 1921 John D. Batten MA, LL.B. wrote a letter to the Director of Kew complaining that 'a visitor may suddenly come upon a man and a girl lying on the ground in a manner as nearly approaching copulation as their garment will permit'. He suggested a new rule that visitors should be forbidden to lie on the grass. This was eventu- JOSEPH HOOKER AND KEW GARDENS ally rejected because it would be impossible to enforce and they were afraid of press criticism. Nevertheless a long debate took place as to which positions on the grass were indecent, and liable to prosecution, and which were just in bad taste. In the eighteenth century the same problem had worried the authorities of Leyden University Botanic Garden in Holland. Their solution was pre-emptive: 'All days and even on Sundays the garden may be visited, such at the discretion of the Head Gardener. Couples openly in love are on no account to be admitted.'

Tip was raised as a boy until his early teens, at which point, after the adventures detailed in The Marvelous Land of Oz, Tip is informed that he was born a girl. After some trepidation, Tip agreed to be transformed back into a girl and assumes rule of The Land of Oz as Princess Ozma. what a paragraph - from The Story of Gardening by Martin Hoyles. This is the intro to the second chapter, explaining how you need to think about international relations and colonialism to understand English gardening.
A connection can be made, for example, between the Chelsea Physic Garden and the construction of landscape gardens, by looking at colonial trade. In 1732 Philip Miller of the Chelsea Physic Garden sent a packet of cotton seed with a plant collector to Georgia. From this little packet three quarters of the world's cotton is descended. Cotton plantations in the southern states of the USA led to an increased demand for slaves, so boosting the triangular trade and enabling some of the landscape gardens to be built with the profits from that trade.

here's my thoughts on the demo (= first hour of the game)
Mentioned this in my post about Unfair Flips, it's weirdly the mirror image of that game. By which I mean that Unfair Flips looks like it's got clicker meta-mechanics, and it kind of does, but they soon abandon you to pure chance and desire for a particular flip. And Q-Up – well, it's kind of the opposite. It seems very briefly like you should care about what flips you get, but soon you realise that the flips are the tiny bit of grit at the center of a palace made of pearl. It's all about the meta-progression - the skills, the items, the various currencies, the narrative structure built up in in-game messages. The various prompts "in-game" advance themselves, allowing you to, for example, start and game and then tuck your Steam Deck behind your laptop while you write some blog post about it. Oh let me amend that last paragraph. I just unlocked challenges as well. So, I mean, it's both seriously doing these things and it's also a piss take. A piss take of a genre I don't really play, but it's serious about taking the piss. The amount of intricate design that's went in here to balance this stuff while also keeping it funny... it's pretty impressive. Both the visual design and also the complexity of the thing. Ah, I was just thinking I was feeling a little too satisfied with the experience I was having and then the demo ended. Good demo timing!

Challenged that other countries which have implemented similar proposals have found they raised much smaller sums, he said: "Whatever you're going to create from a wealth tax, it's ultimately about reducing inequality. "This isn't about creating public investment, we can do that anyway, we don't need to tax the wealthy to do that. This is ultimately about tackling the deep inequality in our society." However, he admitted the idea was not even "close to a panacea" and said capital gains tax - which is charged on profits made from the sale of an asset such as a second home or shares - also needed to brought in line with income tax. "We need to tax unearned wealth as much as we tax earned income," he added. Pressed over whether lower and middle-income earners would also have to contribute more for better public services, Polanski insisted the focus at the moment should be on the wealthiest. But he added: "Once we start to move to a better footing as a society, where we have better public infrastructure and services, then I think it is legitimate to say paying tax is something that's actually patriotic, we should be proud of contributing to this country, to making sure we have an NHS that works, that we have public transport that works. "And, yes, everyone will have to pay for that, but ultimately this is about where is the biggest burden, and that should be on the people with the broadest shoulders."
