*Gets asked a question by NBC*

Trump: “You guys are fake news, NBC has gone down the drain.”

Orban is probably thinking “yeah I got rid of that problem in my country a long time ago.”

Orban: “If the US hadn’t pushed as strongly in 2022 after the invasion European countries would not be that invested in Ukraine.” (ie a dig at Biden)

Trump: “I inherited this war from Biden… Biden wanted this war to happen.”

Hungarian PM Viktor Orban being like “we allow zero migrants in without permission… for that we have to pay €1 million to the Brusselian [sic] budget daily,” and Trump is probably thinking “the Brazilian budget? I just gave Argentina €20 billion, I know what that’s like…”

At a recent Oval Office event Trump invoked Serbia and Kosovo again, claiming he’d just defused an “imminent” war — a conflict so stealthy that literally no one in Kosovo, Serbia or the wider Balkans knew it was taking place.

Moments before the white smoke, this baby seagull was being fed right next to the chimney of the Sistine Chapel.

Habemus Papam! But also yay to baby birds 🐦

A yearly fash gathering in Milan (featuring the Elon Musk I-heart-people salute) being interrupted by neighbors playing Goran Bregovic’s rendition of Bella Ciao honestly made my week ❤️

I was in Rome today to pay my respects to a deceased Pope — and then Trump lands, hijacks the moment with his chaos, failed peace deals & wrecking-ball diplomacy.

It feels like I’m living in a version of the world I was never meant for, one where something’s gone fundamentally off course 😔

Great piece by @carmenpaun.bsky.social on Romanian presidential hopeful (and former PM) Victor Ponta, now under fire for flooding Romania’s side of the Danube during Serbia’s deadly 2014 floods to save Belgrade from devastation.

Communist Albania watching everyone rush to build bunkers in 2025 being like “oh so now it’s a good idea?”

I’m the first person to insist the Balkans are more important than people think, but I’m baffled by the fact that the new Trump “Liberation Day” tariffs include Kosovo, Montenegro, Albania, etc… like, these countries have a trade deficit with the EU, let alone the US 😂

Bosnian Serb leader Milorad Dodik — a fervent Srebrenica genocide denier who also just got hit with an arrest warrant last week — is heading to an antisemitism conference in Jerusalem later this month. Other attendees include far-right figures such as Javier Milei and Jordan Bardella.

Vucic claimed that the ongoing protests — widely considered the largest in the country’s history, with hundreds of thousands regularly taking to the streets — are being fueled by "huge amounts of money from abroad, from various countries and foundations."

Don Jr. popped up in Serbia this week, part of the Trump/Kushner families' ongoing push to invest in the Balkans.

He also had a chat with Vucic — not about investments, but about the real pressing issues: imported color revolutions, USAID meddling and the horror of *checks notes* people protesting.

Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service claims that the EU has “declared war” on anti-establishment leaders such as Romania’s Calin Georgescu — all because they support Donald Trump.

Because nothing says “we’re definitely not working with Russia” like getting a glowing endorsement from… Russia.

Dodik wasn’t always a Trump supporter—he’s faced criticism from every U.S. administration, and the first Trump State Department even kept sanctions against him in place. But with Trump 2 giving autocrats worldwide hope for impunity, Dodik has gone full MAGA.

The Trump camp has had a habit of bulldozing through complex Balkan issues with little regard for their immense sensitivity.

Today, Rudy Giuliani is in Bosnia, interviewing Putin-loving nationalist politician Milorad Dodik—just ahead of a verdict that could sideline him from politics for a decade.

President Vucic met with Blagojevich the other day and I didn’t think much of it apart from Vucic meeting with a “high-profile” figure from the Serbian diaspora

🍿🍿🍿 Grenell just posted this after Kurti pushed back, claiming his government received significant support during the Biden administration and that he welcomes constructive criticism from the US.
February 7, 2025 at 9:33 AM
They claim that Smith intentionally indicted Thaci to disrupt the “peace process” between Kosovo and Serbia led by Trump (and Grenell) and “directly threatened peace and stability in the Western Balkans.”
February 6, 2025 at 5:13 PM
Before Thaci resigned, he was at the center of a constitutional crisis in early 2020 after Grenell had basically coerced the junior coalition member in Kurti’s first, short-lived government to launch a no-confidence vote against Kurti (right as the world was grappling with COVID shutdowns)
