To add to this, this was the most comfortable controller for my hands from any console. This monster. This beast. This behemoth.

I wish smart phones were weird thick gameboy bricks on the daily. I am horribly damaged!

Falcom oversized shoulder pauldrons...my beloved.

I was looking closer at that Zero Parades trailer the other day cause I had a gut feeling about it.

If you needed more reasons why ZA/UM is a shell of it's former self, I'm pretty sure a jacket housing a hand without a wrist and a *squints* coin-slot on a bird??? Are definitely not human drawn

Let's try that again with less typo and more coffee lol

What if all the "little kings" and true "sparkers" out there took over Outer Heaven for a night?

This brain worm's been building for the last couple weeks, enjoy!

Yeah (no idea what the other soundfonts are, but that one's instantly recognizeable)

This ended up being mine, I love seeing everyone's different takes like Porgy and Velgress are basically swapped for us

#15 - Mother 3 (2006)

It's fitting my favorite Nintendo game is almost anti-Nintendo

The gameplay chops of the rhythm tap battle system is cool, but the rare beauty in how it explores loss as loss is what makes the game

Very little, if anything is gained by anyone throughout it's narrative

#14 - Disco Elysium (2019)

Did I mention I have a -thing- for bleak games?

Usually I'm a gameplay first type person, Disco Elysium really tests that theory in the sense it excels entirely due to it's writing. Like a great book, it's near impossible to stop til you've absorbed every word

#13 - Undertale (2015)
Undertale is one of my favs for a different reason than a lot of folks, I think

The characters are fun, the genre-bending is amazing, but I've always been drawn to it because it genuinely feels like the culmination of ideas from an entire era of gaming (more)

#12 - Metal Slug 3 (2000)

Aspiring pixel artist starter pack includes one free pass to a favorite Metal Slug of choice, and for me it's always been 3

I remember enjoying it an arcade so much, that I bought an Xbox to play basically just this and the 3D Ninja Gaiden

#11 - Kingdom Hearts (2002)

This series is so dumb, and I can't get enough of it. It turned me into the button pressing, ARPG fiend I am and I've followed it at every single nonsense turn for just one more chance to slap shit with a big ass key, but you can't beat the quaintness of the original

#10 - Mischief Makers (1997)

Shake shake!

Mischief Makers was my introduction to Treasure, and honestly maybe their most accessible game as a whole. It still carries their staples though, odd controls, non-sensical plots and loads of charm

#9 - Live-A-Live (1994)

I was so late to this party, Square made a remake about 3 months after I finished this game

In many ways, LAL feels like a catalyst to what would become the booming indie RPG scene, it's experimental, unpolished and so very creative it's become a modern brainworm for me

#8 - Deadly Premonition (2010)

When a game with 1/10th of the budget it needs punches above it's weight with complete honesty, I'd like to think it results in a Deadly Premonition moment

If there are flawed gems in the world, DP is the equivalent of a fucked up cool rock you show all your friends

It's free real estate

#6 - Void Stranger (2023)

I used to be garbage at sokoban... now I'm garbage at sokoban AND have 80ish hours logged on Void Stranger.

To say much beyond that would be to spoil far too much, check it out if you enjoy intense secret hunting, sokoban, or simple gameplay with incredible depth

#5 - Gigadeep (2010)

A doujin inspired heavily by Mega Man, but with the speed and absurdity dial cranked to 11 and beyond. Most of Peposoft's game offerings are like this; including a GnG tribute. This one's always stood out to me the most as a must play if you want weird Mega Man, though

#4 - LISA: The Painful

Look, I've got a -thing- for bleak games and LISA is one of the top among that list. The party-as-a-finite-resource style design of the game is something I'm infinitely jealous of, to say little of the russian roulette sequence, iykyk

Also, it has Nern

#3 - I Wanna Be The Guy (2007)

I know @kayin.moe is going to yell at me for this one, but I owe a lot to this thing. I wouldn't have met half the people I came to know without it and without Kayin's early coding guidance... I'm not sure I'd be making games!

Also it's really funny and mean

#2 - La-Mulana (2005)

If Link's Awakening planted the seed for my love of wandering and puzzle solving, La-Mulana was the miracle grow. It's mean, it doesn't tell you anything, it's controls are retro and archaic to a fault, in other words it's a total masterpiece
