it seems like there's exactly one way where hustle culture can actually end in a payout, and that's if you're a techbro doing a startup in silicon valley

everywhere else it's just "you worked yourself to exhaustion and nobody noticed except your gram followers. congratulations, you played yourself"

(For clarity, this is a complaint about change-averseness and a lack of confidence in product development, and not a complaint about our data scientists, which do great work dealing with shitty inputs from broken logging systems, aggressive k-anon processing, and extremely limited preperiod data)

At least in the old days you could trust that, while SWEs came and got their promos and went, there was at least an overall long-term vision and product direction which those ICs played a momentary part in.

Now, everyone's just holding on for dear life and doing what's needed to not get laid off.

I mean, that cycle's been the case for decades.

What feels new is a lack of long-term vision from senior leadership; everyone's constantly seeking to Make Their Mark and pivot to the New Shiny Hotness at every opportunity. I don't think anyone >=2 LVs above me is thinking more than 2-3 years ahead.

The handling on turns is what makes them amazing. Got a set of these for Seattle’s perennially wet roads with steep hills, and they maintain grip on corners that would make my OEM tires skitter. Absolutely replacing with same when these wear out.

Neither does some of these PRs. :(

One of the neater collectibles in vinyl records are bootleg 78rpms of Western artists made from used xray film. They were called “bone music,” or “music on ribs,” or roentgenizdat (xray recordings).

Terrible quality and fell apart after a few plays, but cheap, and there was such high demand for it!
