🔴 Secured the future of the Rosalind Franklin rover, built in the UK by Airbus and due to lift off in 2028.

Its Enfys and PanCam instruments – funded by us and led by @aberuni.bsky.social and @ucl.ac.uk MSSL – will identify areas for analysis, which could reveal evidence of life on Mars. 🦠

☀️ Funding for the UK-led ESA Vigil mission, designed & built by @airbus.com Space in Stevenage, that will monitor solar activity and give advance warning of dangerous solar storms.

This funding returns to UK industry and universities as contracts, putting British scientists, engineers and entrepreneurs at the forefront of global space programmes. Evaluation shows that every £1 invested in ESA returns £7.49 in direct benefits to the UK economy. 💷

Space: the final fright-ier! 👻

This "monster" nebula, called DR 6, sits in the constellation of Cygnus and houses 10 massive newborn stars – each 10-20 times bigger than our Sun.

The spooky "eyes" and "mouth" were carved by stellar winds and heat from the centre stars.

Ground control to Major Tom(b) 💀

The skull-shaped asteroid 2015 TB145 flew safely past Earth on Halloween 2015.

Scientists determined this ghoulish-looking celestial object is likely a dead comet that lost its volatile materials after countless trips around the Sun. ☄️ ☀️

This spooky snap of our Sun was taken by NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory in October 2014, where its active regions combined to resemble a jack-o-lantern face.

These active regions emit more light and energy, which is why they appear brighter. ☀️
