In fact, maybe the only worthwhile and practical use of LLMs I can imagine is in animal communication research. And even then, like, it's not good enough and likely never will be good enough to do much more aggregate and sort data for a person to interpret.

I am a "if you can describe its relative problem solving and sociability in anthropomorphized terms it's probably worth investigating the personhood question" type.

So it's probably considering this question for the other great apes, octopi, cetaceans, &c. before we entertain it for Deep Blue.

To be clear not saying (most) animals have what we would call "personhood" as we experience it, just saying that a spider is undeniably conscious in a way that a computer playing madlibs is most certainly not.

Oh certainly, I guess for me I'm just like... the struggle is part and parcel, I'm just not sure struggle itself indicates inability necessarily - as you've said, we could go back and forth ad infinitum. But I think (personally) struggle and ineptitude are intrinsic to the medium and its practice.

Once those are done the amount of owed stuff in the main queue (as in, stuff not owed to people I'm longtime friends with) hits like 4 owed pieces one of which is at like 60-70% so I'm hopeful I can make some headway this week and next.
