you know, it's sort of fascinating to me how often fantasy settings have a Common Language that is lingua franca not just for nobility or clergy, but commoners too. well, it is probably convenient, but it is also tolkien's fault. but he admits to it being silly. so i can't fault him.

people say that crudely drawn art by someone who's bad at it looks still better than AI art, but i just don't think that's true. they probably just have an instinctive reaction to AI art that would be gone if they didn't hate AI on principle alone.

Alright so the Church is in the news again and I think I gotta make good on this promise. To start: if you see the Catholic Church as a reactionary, conservative institution that causes tremendous harm, correct!

fyi by "genuinely unplayable" i am not doing a comedic exaggeration. it is physically impossible to play it. if you play as anyone other than the shogun the game kicks you out on january 1 1400 because the sengoku situation is coded in a blatant "let's just get this to function at all and go" way
like there's visible grammar issues, mechanics that straight up just clearly aren't done, japan is actually genuinely unplayable, multiple nearly game-breaking bugs (thank fuck they're avoidable), graphical glitches...

eu5 is a great game. i really love the core game and its base systems and i think they're amazing to build on, in a way other pdox releases like vicky 3 have honestly never been, except maybe ck3 activities
